Replacing original radiator fans

I have the car booked in to have the cooling system completely over-hauled - radiator re-cored, new stainless header tank, replace all hoses - and also replace the old orange twin fans with more modern & powerful fans.
I've seen on a previous thread that Peugeot 205 diesel fans and cowling have been suggested, as they are a close fit size-wise versus the orange fans & cowl.
Before I start a search to source these, does it have to be 205 diesel fans ? The 205 GTi had twin fans too, would they work ? Also, would the twin fans from a 309/405 diesel work - for that matter, what about a Citroen BX diesel (I know Peugeot & Citreon shared many components). Makes my sourcing study easier if it's any of the above versus just the 205 diesel.

I think the Peugeot 205 diesel fans and cowling suggestion is my fault, as this is the mod I did to my car.
It happened because one of the 2 orange Ford fans on my S3 was nadgered, so I went to a breakers for another one but they didn't have any. However he did have in the office a 205 diesel fans and cowling which looked about the same size and as he only wanted a tenner for it I took it on the off chance that it would fit.
When I got it home I found that the whole assembly was a very similar size to the Lotus cowling and being made of glass reinforced plastic, it wouldn't rust or fall to bits like the OEM vacuum formed ABS and metal effort. I just cut off all the sticky outy bits it went on a treat.
I put this on together with a triple core radiator (well worth the extra £35) and have had no problems at all in 2 years.
I guess any fan set will do (twin for S3, triple for Turbo) but it just so happened that the 205 diesel bits were a good fit.

Some things Ive noticed about the Ford Fiesta fans in my ventures to match and replace OE ones.. they may look the same, but beware... (at least the canadian ones)
..even thought the fan blades look the same, not all have the same fan mounting system, so make sure your replacement either has a good fan blade or one that is interchangable with your original. The OE blades with the steel collar/ circlip mounting are notorious for seizing on their shaft, and, if you use any sort of drift to encourage the blade to slip off the shaft, you will likely damage the motor internally. You must use a proper fitting press and dont support the fan on the plastic bits.
..not all have the same motor shaft, depending on the fan blade mounting systems used.
..not all have the same motor. Some are Bosch, some Lucas and some Ford. Bosch are longer than the Lucas OE
..not all have the same electrical connectors as the OE ones, depending on the motor type.
Just some pointers to watch in your hunt. Jan
