In the 80's and 90's I had a few cars with the tell-tale plugs in the sills which meant it had been Ziebarted. I remember they were always mint, even the Allegro, and wondered if any PH'ers own or have owned any cars with this treatment?

What happened to the UK subsidy as I see they're still going in the US?

I remember my mum had a Talbot Horizon and that was treated with Ziebart. I'm sure it was done at the dealer, would that be right.

Owned a mk5 cortina Ghia a few years back that was rust free and had been ziebarted from new,
Seen a few cars over the years that have all faired quite well from the treatment,

Yet oddly enough in my family a "Ziebarted" car is a bit of a joke, all the cars we ever bought that had had it done rusted like buggery, in fact the Volvo we had that was done rusted around the Ziebart plugs.

My father always said it was a salt injection to make sure it rusted.

hehe

I'm sceptical about stuff like waxoyl/ziebart. The trouble is, if moisture does get underneath, its going to get trapped and make the problem a whole (no pun) lot worse.

Just like those super strength gloss paints you used to get- the top of the window sill would look great but your finger would go straight through when you tapped it!

No, it would be very wrong.

An Allegro is just about acceptable but a Talbot Horizon! eek
I bet it rattled like a diesel.

Very good stuff if it was applied correctly but going by some rusty examples, box sections like sills ect were very obviously missed. However, i too had a commuter Allegro years ago that had the treatment and although the paint was flat and the car didnt look anything was totally rust free. They always seemed to apply it to under bonnet areas though and acted like a magnet to dirt, always looking a real mess after a few years.
