Hi

Can anyone help?

I am considering a Larini rear box for my DBS and would like to hear from any that have one already fit.

Am a bit concerned that the car will lose its low tonal grunt sound and will be transformed into more of a banshee whail at high revs?

Any advice greatly welcomed.

Thanks.

There's a few videos on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8XIfMd_Ktg

Sounds awful compared to standard imo. Like it's trying to be a Ferrari or something.

You are confirming my thoughts. Have listened to you tube and Quicksilver seem to sound better. Am just concerned as I believe that Larini are the only make recommended by Aston and as such should not invalidate warranty.

If you're only changing the backbox it will only invalidate the warranty on that bit wont it?

I'd go for Quicksilver personally, and keep the original so it can be put back on if they do question any warranty work, which I very much doubt they will smile

Had a GTR in a past life and they would have attributed any engine fault to anything that had any bearing on it, ie exhaust. Don't think AM are that bad but you never know. I have considered having a system made but the original does sound good. Just want something similar but a bit noisier!

Maybe best to put up with original. I have had AM permanently disconnect the baffles by removing the solenoids which means the fuse22 is still in situ and car will not throw up any fault codes.

Sounds like I know what I am talking about but in reality I haven't a clue haha.

Try Bamford Rose - have a look at Cockernee's V12V thread.

Indeed so, forget getting a rear box that costs a fortune and has no power benefit. Change the exhaust manifolds, cats & cams and get a fabulous sound and 570BHP for free biggrin.......... well not quite free..... wink

With cockernee all the way! Changing the back box will achieve nothing! Take it to Bamford Rose they will sort you out. MyV8S gained 34 BHP plus 8% more torque plus a sound that is to say the least uplifting.
They have the ability to tailor the sound where and when you want it.

Backbox = noise with no more power, just less silencing/baffling material. Just dumb iron.

200cpi catalysts = noticable increase in power and torque, slight increase in noise (keeping original backbox).

Manifolds and catalysts = massive increase in power and torque (keeping original backbox), noise that you can tailor from lunatic to moderate; but makes the sound the car deserves smile

Then you can go to inlet manifolds, high lift camshafts, exhaust manifolds and 200cpi catalysts for 575bhp. That'd make your car feel a bit nippier...

Have a search for Bamford Rose and the posts from the satisfied group of owners on here cool

+1 for Bamford Rose route. Have a chat to Mike and you'll find him very knowledgable and helpful. BR sorted my V8V with manifolds and cats. In addition to achieving the sound I'd yearned for from my car, I also got added benefits of more power, torque and improved fuel economy. A win win situation. I reckon BR can come up with a fix for you. smile

Thanks for all advice, much appreciated.

I only wanted the noise as the car is fast enough for my needs. I should explain that I have downgraded from a FGT which had the pulley and throttle bodies done. Combined with a custom tune it was putting out 620hp and had no traction control. It also had just short of 600 ft lb of torque. Best thing is its tubi exhaust for the noise.

Having said all of that, I am now thinking as one of my sayings is you can never have enough power!

Does this conversion affect the warranty and approx how much is it?

Thanks.

Can't work out what a FGT is, but whatever it was, you now have a DBS, that's an upgrade wink

I'd recommend Bamford Rose, great guys that know what they are doing with these cars.

I've had a BR upgrade done, and the car just came back from having some warranty work done alongside its second service at my local main dealer. The exhaust didn't affect anything, but the engineer that test drove the car was very, very impressed with the way the car drove, he wants another go when the roads aren't so slippery !

It was a Ford GT and in terms of performance the DBS is a pussycat in comparison.

Sorry but I assumed (incorrectly in some cases) that all would know what FGT meant beer

Ditto for this:-

The custom resonator/cat/exhaust manifold offers extra power, a beautiful deep baritone burble - better than the original and noise increased by a very modest 4dB from 88dB to 92dB on a V12V. Loudness can be modified from stupidly going deaf in the cabin (Cockernee) to just above OEM (me).

Larini is so yesterday. BR is the way to go now.

My DB9 will be having a Bamford Rose 6.5 litre V12 conversion in the next few months - 100bhp/litre, 8000rpm redline and normally aspirated... well, the maths are easy wink

That won't be pussycatting about angel

All you will need then is a decent set of tyres and you might actually go somewhere - fast! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin
