Just saw his usual Christmas dvd advertised and he destroys another Marina, I know they were pretty rubbish and it was probably ropey but is he hell bent on getting rid of them all ?

Imagine if it was Mk2 Escorts he was killing !

There are about 300 Marina's listed on how many left.

Should they be wiped off the face of the earth ?

As they said in one of their shows - we should destroy all but one, then keep it as a museum piece as a warning to history. tongue out

I had one from new. Terrible car, leaked from the day I got it and wouldn't start in the winter. I'm with Clarkson, kill them all. Surprised about 300 still being around.

Perhaps the same reason why there is only one Clarkson ?

Is this from the Clarkson DVD or the Marina he drops onto a Panda in the Top Gear Worst Car Ever DVD?

If you'd ever owned one (before they were "classics") you would not defend them.
As stty British cars go (ie, BL, Rover, MG etc) they were utterly horrid. Even the 1.8 TC version was a st box, although they really are rare. I had a normal 1.8 and oh my god it was depressing. frown

I've had some awful cars, Allegro, Maxi, Princess, but the Marina was the worse of the bunch.

As a final insult, and I took this personally, they "facelifted" it and renamed it an "Ital"! rofl
Now that was an utter plop mobile.

My neighbour had one (Ital, In light blue) and one night it was stolen. The cops found it the next day about two miles away.
The cops said the same night a Ford Escort had been stolen right next to where they'd dumped the Ital, which is how they found it in the first place.
My neighbour commented that it was running fine and nothing was broken but oddly it had a full tank of fuel!! rofl

Guy who does the bodywork for me is a big Marina fan. He's got two coupés; one's a Rally replica.
This is a Good Thing. It meant he was not remotely worried about the rust in my 24 year old Astra.
That's not bad rust! THIS is bad rust!

We had a Purple Marina TC saloon back in the eighties, it had a red vinyl interior, it had an advanced warm up system, if it was warm one peg on the chocke would suffice, during winter two were required and a three peg day, well, that was like a scene out of the "Day After Tomorrow", the red Vinyl seats were pristine and protected by the nittiest, wooliest, nastiest most flea bitten seat covers ever seen, there was always a glass ashtray on the front seat as my mum is an avid B and H enthusiast. I have memories of the car, not massively fond ones like the Capri my dad had, but memories nonetheless, part of my childhood so it raises a smile of I see one at a car show, remind me of the time my dad used it to transport rbble in a black bin and it fell over, first time I ever heard my dad drop an F bomb !

Nobody is going to miss the odd ones and I suspect Marina owners are now like Meerkats when they sell one, on the lookout for predatory BBC researchers who have been ordered by the wooly haired one (similar to the seat covers) to purchase one to be sent to oblivion, as realitically even the most pristine example is well within the reach of the TG budget, never mind ones needing work that people want rid of.

Not defending the Marina or upset, just kind of amusing that Clarkson is at it again, he has upset the Marina club before, he is just toying with them again, all great fun until some Marina fundamentalist assisinates him with a sharpened Trunnion.

Mk 2 Escorts are no better. I suggest a giant demolition derby. We could do all the Marinas in one hit AND get rid of 300 shonky old Escorts at the same time.
