Picked up my new XK8 today, an 01 X reg coupe, and have a couple of little niggles, I wonder if any of them are common?

Firstly the dealer kindly opened the bonnet to top the washers up before I arrived and one of the bonnet catches is not playing ball! the bonnet opens forward so not a safety issue, but it is annoying having it stuck up a bit, the dealer has offered to pay if I take it somewhere to get sorted. I will take a peek in the morning and see if it is an easy fix, basically something seems to be stopping it pressing down on the catch

The passenger window doesn't pop back up when you close the door, you have to use the window switch, could it be just a dodgy contact somewhere or something more sinister?

The NS indicator repeater has a damaged clip so pops out sometimes, I will see if I can bodge something whilst I source a new one, what's de-riger amber or clear?

Looks as if the bonnet catch neads adjusting, an easy job

Maybe the car has bean stood and the battery went flat or at least low on power
Often a sign that a new battery will be required

Lower the window and hold the button untill you hear a click, about after 5 seconds then raise the window, again hold untill you hear the click. Do the other side as well. Memmory should then be reset

Clear reflectors and side repeaters look good

Thanks Norman,
Bonnet issue sorted, a piece of rubber seal had moved back slightly and was standing proud next to the catch, moved that and it closed perfectly

I tried the rest on the window but it hasn't cured it.

Trying a bodge with a piece of foam rubber to keep the repeater in place for the time being...

A new repeater from a dealer is about £11 so not that expensive to replace, or you could try someone like Trevor at J&DS Autos in Penge. He is breaking a few XKs at the moment.

Car battery is a bit low after sitting at a dealer's I expect, this is a common problem, solution is what the poster said above, but it will recur until the battery is strong which is when the car is getting regular use. Don't worry about it. Get under the car and make sure that the seams and wheel arches, and the footwells are rust free. That's what you really need to worry about!

Thanks for the comments, I have tried the reset 4 times on the window to no avail, I will book it in to get it looked at (dealer paying)

it is a completely different animal to the 951/968, I sat back in the 968 wreck this afternoon to see how it compared, and I guess the most immediate thing is how low and intimate the 968 feels, it really does feel like an extension of your body whereas the XK8 is a lovely, fluffy, soft place to be, with lots going on that you are not directly connected to...

You will learn to connect with it in a different way, more 'light touch'.

Hi, how does it drive compared to a 944/968?

Looked at one myself some time back but prices seem to be rising

I dropped the Jaaaag off at Dove House (http://www.dovehousecars.com/)yesterday to take a look at it and I think I am going to be in for a big bill <gulp> mainly consumables but it all adds up when they come in one go.

Basically my handling issue was tracked down to the Nearside rear shock strut not being assembled correctly so the top of it was not located properly…they thought it was broken but have managed to strip it down and rebuild it without needing any new parts.

My tyres are all over 6 years old and a bit perished/cracked and the rear Daiyoung Slipmasters have little sidewall strength so that wouldn’t have helped the handling either so I will change all 4 (has Pirelli P0 on the front)

The disks are nearly all warped, the ones on the back are worse but it does make the whole thing a little juddery! They are alright when the car is cold but as soon as they warm up they are awful, so that is why I didn’t spot it on the test drive.

The window is probably the module, they are stripping that today to take a look at it, but hopefully if it is the module it will be covered on the warranty.

I am just waiting for the call back with the prices, I will then go back to the dealer and let him know what is going on and see if we can come to an arrangement….

Probably not fair to do a comparison until I get the car back with the work done as I had just done a few similar things on the 968

I see they aren't listing as Jaguar specialists then

There comments sound funny, one of them is the disks, not heard of rear warped before, front yes.

They aren't Jag specific but they do look after a lot of stuff with V8s (and V10s, V12s, etc), they sell Jags and they did an excellent job on my last Porsche

I know the owner and the brief he has given Tony, the workshop manager, is to be entirely focussed on customer satisfaction, which Tony finds a breath of Fresh air after his previous life in the up-sell world of an Official Porsche Centre.

I had a warped rear disk on my old 944 Turbo...

What's your experience with the Jag been like since? I'm quite keen to know...
