So my DBS is up for extended warranty end of this month and the car has just been picked up for its inspection...is this a no brainer to do with them? and a total necessity? I have had the car from new...just want to gauge any experiences out there. Help and guidance appreciated.

My warranty ran out last Friday and at £1700.00 to extend will stay that way. My car is the same year as yours it seems. What have you been quoted to extend?

As many others do, take it Bamford Rose and get them to check the whole car over. Any work can be carried out by Aston, its then your choice as to whether you want to renew or not.

Just done mine and decided to take the warranty - for just over £30 quid a week for me its well worth the peace of mind. You will get both sides of the arguments on here for and against, its how you personally feel about the risk is the answer .

That's what I was quoted, and the level of services from Aston near me made me sell it!

Try Broughtons, am sure they are cheaper than £1700?

There's no way I would run one of these without warranty. I had a headlight washer break its mounts and that alone would have justified the cost.

Think you will struggle with the warranty price itself , deals to be done on the inspection

I'm sure if you shopped round you'd be able to find a headlight washer for less than £1700 rolleyes

The question is really about whether you are certain that your car will need £1700 spending on repairs in the next year, on the few things that are excluded by these warranties.

I took the risk with my Audi A8, where the cost was around £800 per year for the warranty, so far I'm £3500 ahead. It's a different car, but the decision process is the same

The washer unit was the actual pump that is mounted under the headlight unit. The receptors for the screws had failed on the washer pump and this meant that a complete headlight was required - hence the massive expense. This combined with 2 failed tyre pressure censors totalled more than £1700.

I would not be too concerned about an extended warranty on an Audi as they are both German and very very reliable. Aston on the other hand are temperamental and can be very expensive to fix when they go wrong, which invariably they will at some point.

As I said, I would not run mine without a warranty but that's me. I prefer the peace of mind and will certainly extend my warranty after the manufacturers expires. You pays your money and takes your choice as they say.

My DB9 Volante has just gone in for an MOT at Stratones Amersham.
Warranty runs out on the 21st December.I had decided not to renew as the car had been problem free since the initial problems were fixed. Had to go back 5 times to have P,D.R,buttons fixed plus a few other little things.
They did a quick check over the vehicle earlier this week and it will need approx £2500 worth of warranty work to sort. Oil leak (9 hours labour as front half of engine needs to be dropped and headlamp motors need replacing)
Add everything up and I think I did well buying from a dealer with a warranty.Everytime I needed something doing I rang them up, they collected the car and returned it all washed and polished.
These cars do go wrong, its a reality.Peace of mind in my view is a big thing in owning an Aston Martin. Worrying about the cost of a warranty is like worrying about their fuel consumption. If you can afford an Aston you can afford a warranty and be free to enjoy the car.
Sure people will disagree but just look at the maths.
Happy Xmas

Crazy name crazy guy?

Mr Crazy does have a point here. However he did take his car to the Dealer spare part changers for the repair and being under warranty that is the way to go. Of course they do the easiest and most profitable thing for them, warranty pay, you pay warranty, you pay 1700 for two broken screws.

However had he not had the warranty he could have taken it to a motor engineer who may have produced a much cheaper solution. It's a crazy world!

Before the current warranty extends why not take it to Bamford Rose so they can have a good look at it? Then take it to your dealer for repair work under warranty.

I did this with my V12V and Bamford Rose spotted something around £5,500 of work for AML to do under warranty.

Do that and see what the Bamford Rose guys suggest about extending or binning the warranty. This was an eye opening experience for me - no more "They all do that Sir" - well, this engineer has written a report that says that actually they don't so kindly fix it there now mr main dealer...

No news yet, phone call today said the car needs a service too...as the last one was delayed and need to have its third before warranty finishes, will deduct inspection cost from service cost.

I am not that crazy nuts

Aston's are expensive pieces of kit and if you want to protect your investment it requires a certain amount of preventative maintenance. A warranty helps provide for this and adjust gives peace of mind knowing that any unforeseen costs are limited to the price of the warranty. They always find something when servicing!

I always have main dealer service with proper stamps as again this helps resale and residuals.

Hey, that's my opinion and to date has served me well on all expensive cars I have had.

Imagine if an engine blew with no warranty - ouch cry

I just did that today for peace of mind. BR found that I needed new tyres, rear just legal front cracking through age - 2007 tyres with 20 k on the clock- new pads and disks on the front and new pads on the rear, although rear disks will need doing soon, so no warranty work.

Fortunately, nothing else required. I froze my feet off though; their heater had burst into flames yesterday and the place was colder than a deep freeze! The new place will be a complete palace in comparison.

Met Bruce who is very friendly like Gary, Mikiel (sp) and Ashley? - I didn't get his name.

There was a V8V up on the ramp having new manifolds and cats put on, which was far more dirty than Yeti's. Impressive.

You should have asked for a lift to the Halford Hotel. Nice place to while away a few hours and great breakfast smile
