Hi guys,

I once again need to dip into the infinite pool of knowledge that is the pistonheads TVR forum...

A couple of weeks ago my car was damaged by a carless, but (fortunately) honest neighbour reversing out of her drive.
I have had it all fixed up and made like new, and whilst doing it had the usual stonechips at the front done, and also had the paint around the petrol filler re-done.
The coachworks guys doing this removed the chrome "O ring" around the ball as you would expect, however, whilst sanding or buffing the area have gone through the masking tape and taken the chrome off the top of the filler ball.
When I pointed this out they said they would sort it out, and asked me to get a price for a new one.
They then later said they had polished the marks out. Not being an expert I can't be 100% certain, but it looked to me like the chrome had been removed, and not something else on top.

My theory is that they have dismantled the filler neck turned the ball through 180 degrees and re-fitted it. Now to me this would be absolutely fine, however they seem to have hashed it up, as when filling with fuel, I ended up with 5 litres of petrol all over the forecourt, and plus I now have a smelly car.

I have taken it back to them, and they swear blind that the only thing they have touched around the filler assembly was the "O ring" and nothing else, however they seem very keen to try and fix the problem for free nonetheless.

My concern is that they don't know what they are doing and will screw it up again. Plus, if my theory is correct, they are also lying to me.

So, finally, my direct question is - is it in fact possible to turn the ball around and show the other side?
Secondly, how tricky is it to re-fit the whole thing? Should I just have a go at it myself? If so, have any of you done it before?

Many many thanks.
