I have an idea. Just pay for 6 months and then sell it within that time and buy an Up!

We should revolt! Stick it to the Man! Get everyone together and load the cannons!!

Or we could burn the car in protest! Yeah, burn it up proper, that'll show 'em!

Or we could organise a march! Yeah, they get noticed.

Or maybe a petition, that might generate some interest and spark a debate.

Or maybe start a thread on the interweb, that'll make you feel better.

Or just pay it online whilst watching TV, giving a bit of a sigh when you hit 'proceed' on the payment page.

OP, you made more effort than most - well done!

£475 for my Z4M too.

The worst of it is if I'd buy one 6 months older, it'd be £260.

Ah well.

All of our fleet is pre 2001 so £220 or whatever over 1500cc is!

I suppose there needs to be some compensation for driving such an old car wink

Curiously, I do feel a little bit better. Maybe I'll write to my MP - that will cheer me up even more! I'm not organised enough for a March or cannons.

If you can't afford it, buy a car more within your means.

Of course I can afford it, but thats not the point. Allow me to rant! It's the injustice of it, etc etc. Presumably you pay your car tax with a feeling of inner calm? Quite possible.

There's a difference between being able to afford it and not agreeing with the policy.

Look on the bright side - as a part of the total running costs it's negligible and a lot less than most european countries.

Simple logic- if they rape you on tax one way then reclaim it in another.

I leave it to your fertile imaginations to work out how to do it. smile

I think the legitimate argument against the road fund license is that it isn't mileage related.

So someone in their diesel hatch paying £100 p/a and doing 30,000 miles pays substantially less than the £450 odd I pay to do 5,000 in a Datsun.

Granted, petrol is taxed heavily but I'd sooner do away with RFL altogether and push it into fuel prices. Just to play devil's advocate.

I pay the same on my 3.2 V6, would have thought your emissions were lower than that!

Also, check this out as a comparison:
