200TDI oil leak, how to stop?!
Discussion
Hi,
After many months of rebuilding my engine, getting it back into the engine bay and prepping it for its mot, a oil leak has developed (a couple of days before its mot too!). The leak is coming from the oil drain in the bell housing of the gear box, it drips every 10 seconds or so on idle. My guesses are its going to be the rear crankshaft oil seal.
I know the correct way to fix this should be taking the engine out or dropping the gear box, but I need the vehicle to drive and won't have the time to take it off the road!
So my question is how can I fix this temporarily?
I don't think theres many options, would the 'oil leak stop' product work? on this kind of leak or is it too severe?

Main issue with the seal additives is that they will affect ALL the seals they come into contact with. Might do it for you temporarily, but you're going to have to do the job properly eventually - sooner if it doesn't work.
Only source seals from a franchised LR dealer, leaks seem to be a bit of an issue when seals from elsewhere are used.

Its in a 110 2 door hardtop defender, bit of a mouthful!
Turns out I was wrong, it wasn't the rear crank oil seal, it was actually clutch housing gasket - it had kinked meaning there was a slight gap letting out oil! So have taken it off and put a new gasket on, should all be fine soon and then I can sell it! :-)
