Hi all.

So it's MOT time, and the fun of getting a legal pass to continue to drive my baby on the road beckons.

My primary concern is that she is de-catted, and I don't have any Cats to drop in temporarily. So does anyone have a pair that I can buy cheaply, or borrow, in order that I can get her through?

Also, and tips as to the things that the Cerb typically trips up on, so I can check beforehand?

Many thanks.

Mike

Why not have a chat with a couple of local garages about your concerns re emissions? You might be surprised how sympathetic they are to your situation.

I spoke with my local guy Mike Stokes Motorsports, and they'll happily fabricate something temporarily, but obviously that'll probably cost me labour, parts etc...

Unless someone knows better?

I meant local MOT Stations. Pop down there and explain about your car and how sensitive it is to balance keeping it in tune and getting through the MOT test and have a chat about it with them and their views on such things!

Has anyone managed to get the emissions low enough to pass without the cats in?

I think the map would need to be changed to manage that. And it probably would nt do the engine any good.

Best thing to do is go along to your regional tvrcc meet and ask if there s any TVR friendly mot stations in your area wink

4 pack of beer in the boot is the approved short term solution to MOT emmissions. Something to do with soaking up the hydrocarbons etc. In fact the chemical reaction process is so good that by the time you have got home the beer cans have totally disappeared. wink

Probably the easiest solution is to buy a pair of cheap cats from e-bay.

My car had two fitted at Kwik Fit by the seller immediately before I bought it.
Apparently they needed a little bit of modifying before they'd fit.
It cost £50 to get them fitted so it was probably only a bit of minor flange reshaping.

They're still in the car now and passed the last MOT with no issues.

Don't know if these are the same ones but they're damn cheap at £57.06 including p&p

Now I must not say it, don't respond, don't give in to temptation, bugger. He said it, that word! And it needs minor reshaping! bounce

Sorry i'll grow up again.

I only asked as know this is an issue with the test and was just curious. I am lucky enough that a pair comes with my new car.

I'm surprised people continuously post on a public forum about this topic, would it not be better to speak to local owners and find the "right" garage and say no more about the situation.

I had my local 'friendly' MOT garage MOT my 4.5 before I sold it. It was decatted. I believe it initially failed but they left it running on the ramps for about 10 minutes or so and then re-tested it and it passed. I think the extra heat must have made a difference.

Clearly a busy station may not be able to do this though so I guess call them before and try to sound them out.

Agree, we are a test station and when a car fails but is close we will advise a quick motorway run to put some heat through, then the car generally passes. Have to say I have no experience of it for the Cerbera but it will be one of the first things I do when it arrives

Fine, but it was more the public part i was referring to, I'll say no more as I'll just be contradicting myself, good luck with the MOT

I thought the latest MOT rules indicate that cars of an age that were required to have cats when new have to have the cat fitted irrespective of whether it can achieve the MOT requirements or not.

As a test station you can no doubt confirm this?

Correct and as a result I would say that we are not TVR friendly as a test station. The kind of cars we advise to go for a run are generally older and the cats just need a clear out as they are town drivers.

The cats with the car was a solid requirement of my search for a car.
