1M Suspension mods.
Discussion
I would like to know if anyone has tinkered with their 1M's suspension, perhaps even making it a touch softer especially at the rear?
Having owned my 1M for over a year now part of me keeps toying with the idea of an Evolve remap, exhaust and intercooler but i think if i were to do this and give it more power i would like to help it lay the extra grunt down better on anything other than a marble smooth road in the dry.Would this be necessary? How do you boys running remaps etc find the traction with increased output especially at this time of year?
I rarely drive with any of the stability modes on except in really bad conditions ie ice, heavy rain and the like as i find even the MDM mode overly intrusive but i have noticed as the weather has got colder and the roads a bit more greasy that im getting a lot more axle tramp in first and second gears rather than a gently spin up,and im thinking that with more power it may only get worse, anyone else suffered this?

I found getting the geometry properly checked and adjusted helped with traction. There was quite a bit of variation in rear camber side to side at the back on my car out of the box, factory default settings with the eccentrics at nominal. Matching the rear cambers seems to have helped, although the traction control still works for a living when it's turned on....
Wizz,
I'm remapped with an intercooler and N55 pipes and had similar problems to you. However I resolved this very easily by fitting the Michelin Pilot SuperSport tyres. Where my car used to slither and spin up on the old PS2s, it now digs in and grips on the PSS!
Honestly, the tyres are probably the best change I've made to my car (or at least on a par with my remap!).

Where's the best place to take your 1M to have this done?Pete H said:

I used Center Gravity, had really good results from him in the past. Think another chap used him to to set up his PS10 bilsteins as well (possibly Matt). My car is much less nervous as a result. I put a thread about the work on my car on 1addicts somewhere

Hi yes I used centre of gravity as well I had bilstein pss10's fitted and set up by them the car is more controlled now if a little stiffer ideal for track as well as road. Before I had these fitted I had h&r lowering springs fitted this was a good mod and the car was actually more stable and compliant than standard but a good geo set up is the key I think!I used Center Gravity, had really good results from him in the past. Hi - my car is pushing out a few more ponies and the rear can't cope unless rolling already. Some of this could be the 1M's engine spooling quicker. You do need to be careful with the right foot.
I also feel the suspension is too hard on the rear and I would like to lower the car but only if I could use softer springs. It wouldn't take much softness to remove this and I only really have a problem on crap roads in terms of it being slightly unsettled on the bumps etc.
We need Birds to offer a spring kit like they did with the 135i.
RSMatt, why did you swap out the H&R springs?
