Any ideas of the fault here?

On my 996TT
Intermittently extreme force is needed to enter any and all gears. Engine doesn’t need to be running for this to happen. Clutch pedal fully depressed. It feels like the gearbox/clutch doesn’t line up correctly.
While driving the gear stick will jump out of gear into neutral. This happens once every 100 miles or so. Regular occurrence. This is not driver error, gear is fully engaged then something comes loose on a bumpy road surface and pop its out in neutral.
Even when gears do not require brute force to engage, they are variably notchy. No consistent gear change feel. No smooth gear change feel at all, compared to what I have experience on other 996TT’s I have driven.

Maybe gearshift cable needs adjusting? If it is a fraction out, or fouling something, you may find it difficult to operate the box. It may even have stretched I suppose, as that's what happens to accelerator cables etc.
If this is the case, it should be a relatively easy and cheap fix. Any competent tech can advise.
