Yesterday while driving home my ripspeed dvd player stopped working, it was playing music fine but wouldnt let me eject the disk or anything, i pulled everything out and plugged it all back in but still no luck, the strange thing is the eject light is still on but it wont let me get the disk out. also i noticed the player itself was very warm when i removed it. it has all its original wires etc..not sure if it can be fixed?

Suggest you take it back to the supplier, if it is in warranty.

Is there a manual release on the front of the unit ie a pinhole, similar to that on a PC CD drawer ?

Removing power (permanent & switched), waiting a few minutes and then re-applying the juice might force a reset and cause the eject motor to spin back up, but if you've already pulled the power completely, then that will likely have been done.

I do have a few other thoughts (like part-inserting another disc into the drive and trying the Eject button, or sticking some tape to a lolly stick or similar), but these are a little more 'risky' to the head unit itself..

Is it under warranty ?

My experience with a Ripspeed unit was it also got very hot and i think there was a model (probably yours) where this was an issue but not fatal. They are usually pretty good.

Echoing everyone else. If its under warranty take it back.

Failing that...Its probably not worth fixing (IME parts are never available or as expensive as a new unit....Which is a complete waste of an otherwise perfectly good electronics).

1.Remove unit from vehicle.
2. Smash repeatedly with large hammer whilst shouting " did die die"
3. Go and purchase new unit with a proper brand name
4. Buy new cd
5. Have a beer and relax....

Have you seen the price difference?

I am all for "buying the best you can afford" but when a £150 chinese DVD player does the same as a £600 Kenwood (probably made in the neighbouring factory) I would (and have) chosen the unbranded one. Chances are it does things the branded one wouldnt too as the Chinese dont give a hoot about DVD region coding DIVX compatibility e.t.c.

Why would you have a dvd player in the car?
Meant to be for entertaining the passengers/kids, etc, with some telly, but depending on what car it's been fitted in, it's probably for "entertaining" yourself, or passengers, with some porn on the way to, or at, a cruise hehegetmecoat

Being serious though most of the players may have dvd capability but most will still be used to play music smile
