New Owner.... Is this a bargain?

Hi all,
Im about to become a caterham owner for the first time ever. Usually into bikes but having a move to four wheels for a change.
Im currently looking at 2002 registered Beaulieu 1.6 (vauxhall engine) bored by Caterham cars to 1.8, on approx 3500miles. It is a live axle car but I'm not too worried about that. The car hasn't been used for a few years but has been stored in a heated garage. Under the wishbones has a bit of surface rust but nothing major and of course the sides of the bodywork has a few insignificant stone chips here and there. It needs some TLC and elbow grease to get in sparkling again. Comes with the roof and doors, harnesses, pop off steering wheel, etc..
The asking price is £6k. Just wondering what peoples thoughts were and is there anything to look out for. Is this a good place to start with Caterham ownership, I'm not worried about taking a car on that hasn't ran for a while - rebuilt far too many different vehicles in the past to worry about that!

As said at that price it is an excellent start to Caterham ownership. The engine isn't very upgradeable in its current form although there was a (Bill) Blyderstein conversion done to the 1600's that lifted power from 100bhp to 135bhp. I think it was mainly head work so I expect its possible to replicate this work on this engine and have the benefit of the torque increase too from the extra capacity. You won't go wrong at that price but if you are used to the power of a decent sized bike, the little 8V VX engine isn't going to be comparable for out and out power by any means but get used to the power and exploit the handling and you will be keeping up with bikes no problem on the twisty bits.The asking price is £6k. you'll have a huge amount of bang for your buck at that price, and working on it's just as much fun as driving. IMHO
I don't think that's strictly true - any reading of L7C website will show lots of enthusiasm for modestly priced Sevens and usually a lot of flak about the really expensive ones.As said at £6k you really cannot go wrong at all- do it !A lot of caterham owners are of the view it's not a good car if it's not £20k+.
you'll have a huge amount of bang for your buck at that price, and working on it's just as much fun as driving. IMHO

Really? All I've seen "over there" lately is cycle talk, iTunes trouble shooting, suggestions for wifey's Christmas present and a general slagging off of anything to do with UK motorways.BertBert said:
