Hi guys,

My brother in law has a 2009 clio that he has owned since new. It has 20k miles on the clock and recently started to suffer from stiff gear changes when down shifting from 4th - 3rd, 3rd - 2nd and 2nd - 1st.

He took it into the dealership he purchased the car from and they replaced the gear box oil this solved the issue for a few weeks but its back again. He booked his car in today for them to look over it and they told him there is nothing wrong with it.

It clearly is difficult to change gear and he want's it fixed. The problem is his warrantee runs out on the 13th of this month so needs it sorted pretty quickly.

How would you go about this? I wondered if its possible to get an interdependent garage to take a look at it or even another dealership and see if they could do a report or something showing their findings.

I have no idea when it comes to this thing as I have never had to deal with dealerships.

Oh forgot to add, I have had a google and it does appear to be a common problem with the Clio, people have just lived with it and others have replaced bushes etc with a varying success.

Any ideas would be great.

Park up at the dealer and don't move it. Call renault uk and explain the poor response. They want to blag you past the warranty then fob you off. Had all this with a new laguna years ago. Lucky it was a company car so it got parked there and I took another from our yard and let the lease company battle forth.

Its more likely to be a 1.2 they didnt make a 1.0. He needs to ask to speak to the RTE.. Renault speak for senior tech.. accompanied road test in his car and a demo or used car to compare...
I used to deal with RUK in the past and they were very helpful.

The stigs dad has found another renault thread theres a surprise.

I didn't even realise the latest Clio came with a 1.0? Is it turbocharged?
