I think F2 was a good little series. It was (relatively) cheap and had more races than GP2.
If I was being cynical I might say Palmer no longer needs to run the series, given Jolyon has now moved on..
But no way could a driver jump from f2 up to f1.If I was being cynical I might say Palmer no longer needs to run the series, given Jolyon has now moved on..
It was hailed by the FIA as the antidote to drivers making their way up the ladder with a cheque book, but ultimately money still speaks volumes in racing.

Quite, but I'm not sure you could from WSR or GP3 either.
GP2 is a level above those series I think ?
I think GP3 being on the F1 calendar didn't help either.
WSR isn't far off GP2 pace - especially at Monaco where the extra horsepower of the GP2 car is worth a lot less. I think a driver could step fairly comfortably from WSR into F1.GP2 is a level above those series I think ?

GP3 cars, on the other hand, are pretty awful. Dismal hairdriers that run no downforce because they're so underpowered they'd be dog slow on the straights with a bit of wing. The racing is amusing, but they sound like tuned 4-pot diesels with big exhausts.

The crappy renault 2.0 turbo out of the gp3 is being junked to be replaced with a detuned ex WSR 3.5 v6 what is based on the nissan 350v block but it's being tuned by (UK)AER instead of (French)Solution F. Who In my experience were "well" crap. Giving the kids in GP3 400bhp could make so well intresting (expensive) racing.
Here's an idea- we have a cheap single seater series- let's call it Formula Ford. And then one a bit pricier with slicks and wings- why not call it FF2000? Spend a bit more, get a bit more serious- hey , why not call it F3? Then up to F2 - how come we never thought of this ? - quicker still. And then a short step to F1.
Sounds a daft idea I know- - God, who needs logic and clarity eh?
WHAT - we tried it already ? And it worked ?
So obviously we had to dismantle it completely into the bloody chaos we have now .....
