i wonder if someone could give me a bit of advice.
i own a fwd audi b5 1.6 petrol A4 and the gear stick seems to rock back and forward as i accelerate and deccelerate.
I find that when its cold in the mornings the gear change seems a touch better.
i had the gearbox oil changed but it still feels the same.
Any advice would be welcome.

Gearbox will move due to torque reaction, this then rocks the linkage, which pivots on the body work and rocks the gear stick.

Bushes/mounts on the engine and gearbox may be excessively worn but its pretty normal on many cars.

thanks for putting my mind at rest, i don't want to spend a fortune on the car as its now 18 years old.
at least i now know its not a mechanical fault as such.
