Floorpan goes boing

Dont know how to describe the noise, but the flex of the floopan under the seats makes a dreadful boiinng (trying another spelling) as the driver climbs in and wriggles to get comfortable.

Looking under the car, the floor flexes considerably when just pulling lightly on the headrest (front to back pressure)

Any other people experienced this and solved it?

The factory say that the seat should make the floorpan rigid.

The floorpan is not the lowered one. But thats another story!!! Like others I was not offered or aware of the lowered floorpan option. When I ordered it was not even mentioned. Not a problem for me but my son is still growing.

It will not remove the flex but an adhesive backed acoustic rubber sheet may be sufficient to eliminate the boyoying!!!!!

The floor pan sounds like it may have some "preload" in it as a result of the holes in the floor not matching the holes in the deat rails.

Try to slightly enlarge the holes in the floor to relieve any stress. Please keep us updated.

I had this problem when trying to fit some non-standard seats. I was going to rivet some channel to the floor under the seats. It was the flex, not the noise I had a problem with. I went for factory seat in the end and they tightened it up well. Guess having the bolt holes in a diferent place to the Sparcos made the difference. Try adding some more bolts to the seat runners!

It looks like Ken is close with the preload situation. But I dont like the flex of the panel anyway. So I have opened up a fraction on the hole size and will also place an alloy strengthening sheet to the floorpanel. May not be necessary so will see.

You could remove the panel and fit an alloy honeycomb panel in it's place which is stable unlike a flat sheet, I think Jay Esterer has fitted honeycomb panels on his ultima maybe have a look at his website.

I have the same problem. I also think it has been there since arrival of chassis. It is only on the drivers side and the floor would flex when weight was put on it. So problem there before seats fitted. I await with interest the outcome of your findings.

Try to enlarge the holes a bit more. I thought of this when mine did the same thing.

After removing the seat and standing on the floor, I noted the pan didn't make any noise. Enlarging the holes for the seat completely eliminated the pre-load (and flex). Do this before adding more weight to the car.

Its on the list of things to do, but its such a pain. Driving always seems more appealing somehow.
