Honda crv.... ok 5k family car?

Right, 5k to spend tops looking for a family estate size car.
CRV seems to fit the bill(2.2 oil burner). Will it die and cost me millions? Should get me a car with FSH and about 100k(2005-6 car).
Or what else should I look at?
I've 2 nippers, 1 dog, have an outdoors type lifestyle. It'll do 10k a year.
