4WD system with smaller circumference wheels and tyres
Discussion
I'm pretty sure that this is going to be fine but I thought I would double check:
I have a set of 15" winter tyres and wheels that will fit the Mitsubishi Outlander I have just bought. The outlander normally takes 16" wheels and tyres. I've checked on tyre calculators and the rolling circumference will be slightly smaller with the 15" wheels.
I've heard in the past (how true it is i dont know) that running mismatched tyre and wheel sizes on a 4WD can put additional stain on the Diffs and transfer boxes due to wheels at different corners, rotating at different speeds? Now with what i'm proposing all rolling circumferences will be the same, though they will be smaller than OEM. Should this cause an issue? To my simple mind it should be no different than when you see pimped rangies and X5's with stupid wheels on them?
