New cheaper then Used or am I missing something?
Discussion
I'm looking to replacing our trusty mk1 focus with a new one. I have to do a bit of driving for work these days so expenses will pay for half of it otherwise i wouldnt consider new.
Talking to the dealer they gave me a price of £14200 (zetec 1.0L) for a brand new one although this includes incentive to use their finance. But another dealership in their group have the identical car with 2500 miles on it for £15k.
Even if they discounted the used one by £2K i think the new one would still be the better option. I just dont get it. Are used prices of nearly new cars artifically inflated to get you to buy new or are their people who actually pay more for a used car (and we're not talking exotic cars with long long waiting lists)?

Its very dependant on the manufacturer.
Often new cars at supported, with a healthy FDA from Ford, and normally a good finance package, which means there is more money to play with. At current, financially, on a pcp, your much better buying a new Aygo/Yaris from me, than you are buying a used one. Sounds stupid, but 0% apr vs 7.9% means you save cost!

I suspect that Ford currently has too many new cars in stock so are offering ever greater incentives to try and shift them.
As this is not expected to be a long term measure the dealership will be hesitant to write down the value of their used stock.
Plus the dealer may be able to sell the used cars to customer who don't qualify for the Ford finance deal available on the new ones.
