Hi chaps, looking for some help here...

http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...

This my thread on the Subaru forum but I am thinking it would be more appropriate here.

Basically I have squeezed a 3.3l Subaru flat 6 in the back of my VW Bus with a custom wiring loom.

I was towing a project to a workshop in heavy rain. I developed a misfire after hitting some mega puddles on the way back. Looked like coil packs... so I started the SVX back up and it was once again running smoothly. All the way through the re range.

I have also noted the low oil pressure warning light has stated to dimly glow. I am not sure if this is being read correctly of if this is genuinely an issue.

Q: How can I check the oil pressure on my 6 cyliner Subaru accurately?

Can I get a guage hooked up to the pressure sender or somthing?

Any help appreciated.

Stick a mechanical gauge in place of the switch. It really couldnt get any simpler than that

Bearing in mind that oil pressure lights tend to only illuminate at "the engine's fked" levels of oil pressure, I'd not be wanting to run the engine to figure out what the pressure is. Chances are that it's an electrical issue though.

And if you're in the Surrey area, give Charlie at Surrey Rolling Road a shout.
If he doesnt work on them directly himself, he will know a man who can.

SVX engines are getting popular around more modern Subarus these days. But Charlie and crew are very familiar with all things Subaru.

Thanks guys...

I have a feeling its a duff switch or a lose or bad connection.

As the lights is glowing dimly suggests something aint right as the light should be fully on or off.

I'll check the switch first. Then check connections and then try a oil pressure guage with the correct fitting.

If it need s rebuild, i'll be a bit pissed.

Disconnect the switch and the ligh should go out.

Wiring plug has two pins, join them together, or if only one pin, earth it. Light should come on bright.

A dim ligh suggest a faulty switch to me.

Would agree on the switch. Subarus use a 1 wire switch.

When the engine isn't running does the light come on brightly or dimly?

I'll check this tonight... I have been struggling to get some daylight time to get stuck in.

I'll report back! smile
