I was in a greasy spoon today and over heard a load of lads chatting about a new law coming in January that we must all reapply every 5 years for our Licences.

I went off and googled it and found this:

http://www.commercialmotor.com/latest-news/lgv-lic...

It says there was a public consultation but I hav enot heard a whisper of this anywhere until now.

FFS, How much more is this job going to cost me to keep doing it ? and how much more hassle will we put up with before we all decide to leave the lorrys to the Polish and Latvians to get on with ?

Jumping thru hoops means more money and creates jobs in the collar and tie Dept.

I used to hold a Hackney licence in an old town. When I first applied for the licence back in 1980 it was a tenner, then gradually over the years they gave you more hoops to jump thru and you need now to apply for a CRB check every so many years, medical the same, plus the cost of the licence that's gone up 20 fold.

Then I was told I had to get an NVQ to show I was a fully capable cab driver. In the end I knocked it on the head when I moved and decided to get my HGV licences instead. It now looks like this game is going the same way.

I'll wager a ten week, at one day a week, NVQ course for HGV drivers is not far off.

I well remember having to renew my HGV & PSV licences every five years before they were incorporated on to the car license and having to pay for the privilege too.

This was before the DVLA got their hands on them and were renewed at your nearest Traffic Commissioners.

I'm actually ok with that.

There is a st load onthe road who shouldn't be. People who's eyesight has degraded, their general observance, people who passed a test in a day that really didn't task them

You renew a passport every 10, whats the biggy ? could prevent your next accident FFS !
Fair enough but why start with trucks, a vocation whose numbers has not really increased like the car drivers has, loads more st car drivers about who are as you described and they cause way more trouble than us lot.

I will tell you why, if you fk with cars too much it impacts almost everyone, if you ps off the lorry drivers no-one cares.

Maybe you should check your eyesight hasn't degraded, did you not read "the new regulations will mean all drivers need to reapply every five years, although those under 45 will not be required to undergo a medical"
So how will re-applying help?

When re-applying to renew your license you will be signing to the effect that you are medically fit to drive.

After a modest age HGV drivers have to reapply for their licence every five years.
