Schumacher doesn't appear to really care what people think on this. He wanted to come back and to have the challenge, it didn't work out so now it's time to move on.
He's a 7 time world champion. He holds near enough all the important records at the moment and some of his drives in the past were utterly amazing. I don't really see how his come back really devalues his achievements.

Watching him race with Kimi in the last race was fantastic.
Monaco Pole and the podium earlier on in the year proved he could still mix it with the best of them.
Shame the Mercedes has not carried on the success from Brawn GP.

His results may not have been what he wanted, but neither was the car. On occasion we saw flashes of the old brilliance. Good or bad he provided entertainment.

This. He had an opportunity to have a second bite at the cherry, a chance to return to doing something he loves. He'd have been a fool to pass it up, regardless of the results.Mermaid said:

Despite Schumacher's disappointing comeback, Ecclestone said his departure will be a loss to the sport.
"He enjoyed racing and was there helping to do good things for Formula 1," said Ecclestone when speaking to the sport's official website Formula1.com.
"We will miss Michael, because even though he wasn't winning races in those three years, he is still very popular."

To be honest I always thought Schumacher's real mistake was retiring the first time; the fact he came back shows he wasn't really ready to leave the sport so I'm not sure why he retired at the end of 2006. Raikkonen won the title in a Ferrari the following year and personally I think Schumacher would have had the better of him if he'd kept racing; he knew the car and the team inside out and I think that would have tipped things in his favour in 2007. I do think he's right to go this time though; in his prime he made the difference when the car wasn't quite right but he didn't seem to be able to do that with Mercedes....

Wasn't NR >0.1s faster on average, after the car was redesigned to suit MS's driving style, and NR had much better race results and most of all, didn't make a d!ck of himself with his on-track antics?CampDavid said:
