Simply fantastic write-up & photos! Much better than the official workshop manual. smile

FWIW, I was able to do this without removing the exterior chrome strip and mirror cheater panel.

OK, OK, OK. I added a note to the introduction saying as much. Document is now Rev B, dated 8 December 2012 in case you want to replace the one you have.

Not meant to be criticism in any way smile Just my experience from bumbling through it myself without benefit of your excellent guide.

Actually glad you pointed that out. After studying my own photos, it sure looks like the chrome strip didn't need removal! In fact, I now think that I removed the chrome only because an old version of the DB9 workshop manual said so, so that access to a screw could be revealed. But I think a running change to the door panel eliminated that 'feature', resulting in not needing to take the strip off any more.

I was going to remove those 2 steps, then I thought that if some did work a very early DB9, then maybe that screw would be there and would have to be accessed, hence the note I added.

Great How to.

q. When i look inside the car from the outside there is damage to the inside trim nearest the glass. I assume this is the inside of the door cap?

Anyone know if this is a piece I can buy on it's own? It looks like a long strip of black plastic that runs alongside the glass.

(photo tomorrow if required)

Hi there. I have to replace a blown speaker in driver's side door of my DB9V and need to remove the door card... The old link above (which sounds as if it will be a fantastic help here) in this thread, and repeated in the FAQ Wiki, just produces a "HTTP 404 not found" message and blank screen when I try and click through - DB9VolanteDriver, any chance the guide could be republished with a refreshed link or a PDF posted?

Many thanks

KR

Hi Tempest,

What are the symptoms of your blown speaker? Is it just not working?

My drivers side speaker gives off an annoying buzz / resonance at certain frequencies (mainly male speech, so listening to football commentary is a nightmare!) but am not sure if it's a trim issue or the speaker needs replacing.

Either way, sounds like I also need to take the door cap/card out to check it out!

PS - link above also not working for me frown

Thanks. Well, I say "not working" but my symptoms sound exactly the same as yours - no problem 90% of the time but a buzz/resonance only occasionally if very loud voice on radio 5(!) or certain music at (very) high volume but all ok at lower or normal vols. I had just put my car into the dealer for annual service. Its a great car and in four years I have had not a single problem with it so before it went it in I said only had two things to report/fix that I had noticed in last few weeks - one, a curling up driver carpet(!)(now stuck down with stronger sticky stuff than my upholstery tape) and the other an occasional buzz from speaker which I said I thought sounded like a vibration of part of the speaker or speaker mount against some trim or the grille etc. Anyway, car came back with flawless bill of health again save that the dealer said the speaker is "blown" (on the sheet it says "Drivers door speaker unserviceable" and they want £320 odd to replace. I can't see that they have taken the cap off to check this - doesn't look like it has been touched - maybe they just know. So I said I'll pass for now and have a think. I am tempted to have a dig around and see. I am ok with electrics within reason and am hopeful it is either loose speaker/mount or grille inside. Even if it is blown I can replace just the speaker for a fraction of that. All assuming I can get into the door...
