Just when I thought I had all systems operating right, I see my BRAKE warning light stays lit. My car is a 1977 (#3668) with PDWA (that tests OK). From studying several wiring diagrams I have collected, I see the PDWA is in an earth "loop" with the handbrake switch. FYI, I have no wires to my brake master cylinder cap.

The handbrake switch, sort of a plunger arrangement, is connected to a spring that activates the switch by pulling the plunger outward when the handbrake is pulled up. If I test continuity from the PDWA plug, I show continuity whether the hand brake is up or down. From under the car, I can see the plunger on the the handbrake switch retracts when the handbrake is released and is pulled out when the handbrake is set. It looks like it is working but I believe the switch is staying connected even when the plunger is retracted. It has a green wire coming out one side and a black wire coming out the other side. Suspiciously, it has electrical tape in the area where the green wire goes into a nearby joiner-type connector so maybe this isn't the first time my car has had this problem.

Can the handbrake switch be disassembled and cleaned? I can't see it well enough on my back to tell if it's held together by screws or rivets. I'll try spraying it with contact cleaner and see what happens.

Can anyone tell me the brand and part number so I can search for one here in the US? Or availability and pricing in GB?

Not critical but I would like everything to work like it's supposed to.

Thanks!

Hi John,

Just to show TVR' don't like standing around........

For parts; TVR Olenik is a good site

The switch you mean (and also the PDWA switch) is being advertised on Moss Europe (for some reason cannot find it on Moss Motors US....), go TR6-electrics-switches/controls/13H3735

For tech-assistance; buckeyed triumph
