Anybody ski'd in Germany? suggestions for wee gems please

Thinking of doing a ski/boarding tour around some of Germany's smaller ski resorts, for about a week. Has anybody been & can suggest a few nice places. The lower resorts in amongst the trees always appeal & there would appear to be a nicer atmosphere than your typical French ski factories.

It looks likes many places have a big dump of powder this week so just need to find the ones that are open & worth a visit.

We did this a few years ago around Switzerland & we had a great time, finding some lovely quiet off the radar places on our random winter road trip.

Suggestions welcome, planning on driving out & staying at local hotels & pensions the weeks before Christmas.

Though Germany only really had Garmisch (sp?) . Austria is fantastic though, if you are looking for quiet try Leogang, about 45 mins from Salzburg, 2 hrs from Munich

Try where i've been many times,the Vosges in eastern france Lorraine/alsace near the german border,a few ski resorts,the main two being La bresse hohneck and Gerardmer.Not too difficult and half the price of the Alps,check out their websites.
