Just had an email from Andy at APM and my engine is in a very very bad way, he is looking into a replacement core unit, which sounds expensive, and maybe out of my budget.

Will wait on the costs, but anyone have any bright ideas? Or a AJP engine kicking about?

Although something I didn't want to do, how much does a LS engine transplant cost?

Sorry to hear its not just a refresh...
I guess it's worth comparing the costs of rebuilding yours, rebuilding another ajp, gambling on a scrappies ajp or an LS.
I have seen 3 or 4 LS conversions and the cheap ones were rubbish. I suspect a decent ls install will be knocking on £10k.
Try placing a wanted ad for a 4.5?
Maybe email

Bummer frown I think I would be looking the ls route unless you can find a good ajp lump.

£11000-£13000

So any ideas what's actually goosed? Crankshaft, block? Tbh it would take a lot to push me the LS route.

don,t panic wait for Andy to to give you the costs you might be surprised, he is very very good at rebuilding an engine, I panicked when I thought my engine was f---ked but he came back with a great price and engine back in car and is great, if it is too far gone ask for a price to have a 4.7 I would have have the 4.7 but not worth the extra money for me as he could fix my engine, I would with out a doubt have had the 4.7 put in rather than an LS engine at least it would still be an AJP engine but upgraded by people who know what they are doing

This is the sump off, lots of bits of engine in the bottom!

Spoke to Andy today and he has found another engine but not sure on the condition, mine is not salvageable, will most likely get him to rebuild the new one.

Blimey Brett, that's bad news.
I would be tempted to buy that lovely pink one in the classifieds and use that while getting yours rebuilt. Then in the spring, you would have one to sell....;)

Brett,

You have 6 hours left! Do it, do it now! Dry sumped race AJP with 2 x brand new race heads and 2 x new oil pumps. Plus race cams etc. If I were in your shoes, I would snap this up - Andy could work a 4.7 out of this without too much trouble as all the parts are there (liners have also been removed), plus you can use ancillaries of your old engine.

That is tempting, but without seeing the condition of the parts it may not be a sound investment?

Anyone know the history of these parts?

ouch thats a sad piccie of the internals. bits of piston, a gudgeon pin in 3 pieces, a bit of broken liner top. I would imagine the rest of the inside of the block looks a proper mess.
Incidently there was a thread on here years ago about the gudgeon pins not being very good (itiejim?) .. I wonder if that failed first?

Not me, though it too much of a gamble without seeing the parts 1st, did have my finger hovering over the bit button though! Thought it best to speak to Andy tomorrow and discuss my options.
