My GT3 MK1 goes up for sale this week frown

I am looking to stay in the family so too speak. I am looking into a cheaper Porsche, (did 588 miles in the last 14 months in the 3, and don't see having that money tired up in a car I used so little)

I am looking for a car that will be an event to jump in a drive at the weekend, but also I can do the odd track day and euro trip. (I know it will NEVER be an event like jumping into my 3)

The car will be parked in a private car park all week, that in mind is why I did not look at the 993-964. (rusting), the GT3 spent her life in storage, but the next car will be open to the elements.

Cars I am looking at -

Cayman 3.4 S
996 C4S
996.2

I don't mind throwing some money at the car to drive and handle well...

Your views guys??

Are there any other makes I should be looking at?

A Cayman S would make a great weekend/Euro trip car but I've resisted doing track days in mine due to them being prone to oil surge.

Hi - How about an M3 CSL?
They can be very flexibly used and are also good on residuals.

I suppose you are right....that would need more like £20-£25 at entry level
A M3 CS would be in the price range but probably not as special as the other options.

You have not seen me drive on track.. driving I must be the slowest driver on the road!

I have read, low temp thermostat - X51 sump - 3rd centre rad and GT3 (VOS) helps keep the engine cool.

BMW M3 CSL, great car.. But just don't do it for me!

By all accounts these are very worthwhile modifications. They won't prevent oil surge, however, an Accusump is required to combat this and they ain't cheap.

Nice, very nice. But don't think leaving it outside would be the best idea.

Pretty much any Porsche from the late 80s and on can easily live outdoors!
My 993s lived ithe streets and nothing went wrong or rusty as long as they were regularly well washed/cleaned.

I'm really not sure you'll find the cayman an event to jump in, quite a big step back from the GT3 really. I think i would try to stick to the 911 family.

I've just changed my C4S for a SLK55 AMG so far I'm very impressed the V8 is one hell of an engine. Makes the Porsche feel like a slug in comparison

Just picked up a 996 a week ago and love it. Highly recommended, and loving the rear arches.

Now that is NICE!

This would be my first choice for upto £15k but as you say Dan, leaving it outside would be a real shame.
On that basis I think that gen2 Cayman is a good shout. Suspension, wheels and a pair of buckets and away you go. driving

Thanks for all the ideas so far!

Is a Gen2 2.9 Cayman going to be fast enough?

I see the 3.4 (Gen1) can be bought from £17k with low miles.

There is no question that the 2.9 isn't quick, it just needs to be driven harder than a 3.4 to keep it 'on the boil'.

A sorted 996 C2 and have some cash left, although would it still be an event to drive after having a GT3?

Hmm... 3.4 it may have to be.

SLK, not thought of one of them?
