My MOT runs out this week and I need one before the Bruges trip next weekend. The 2 places I use are booked way in advance. I took it to a local place tody and to be honest it was obvious they wanted to fail it. Then when they called me over to show them how the lights worked he made comment about the front amber sides. When asked if he would fail it for that he said yes - despite the fact that the 3 previous MOT's were passed with the exact same lights - all at different garages. I told them not to bother with the rest of the test and drove the car out, not paying.

Any garages you know of??? I need to call American Autos but have mis-placed the number.

I got mine at Bauer Millet in Manchester to do it, if you fancy a trip there. It was done after the service I had and was £45... But passed fine.

Amber sidelights are fine with white sidelights. have they not seen a Discovery? I'd report them.

Just make sure your foglight and illuminated switch are working

Had my ZR1's MOT last week, and had the annual re-wire of said foglight for the MOT... What a pain in the arse...

Wayne, I think the regs say "Front side lamps must be white unless they are inside a yellow headlamp ....."

I know this because myself and the tester had to look it up for my C4 which had orange side lights - it failed. I got it passed elsewhere but a word of warning - when I did run it on sidelights, more than one person mistook them for indicators (even though they weren't flashing) and tried to pull out in front of me. Their fault I know, but I wonder what my insurance company would have said when they found out I had illegal lights.

I'm not familiar with the set up on a Discovery but assume that Brett doesn't have both white and amber anyway.

no, all yellow mate. I will take the car else where. I only took it to where I did because it was my local garage and the usual place was too busy.

In that case, I'd report the people who passed it. LOL!

Always take mine to Wheelers in Chipping Norton. I have red lenses on the rear and it has never been a problem. geoff puts all his Vett MOT's through there not sure what cars have been through with amber sides. Could be worth giving Dan a call to see if he knows if they have passed a car with ambers and get him to arrange before Sat for you. Bit of a drive for you but thats what ZR1's are for anyway!!!

Brental!

I use a guy up here - in Melton Mowbray. A couple of diferent guys have tested mine and are generally interested/keen to test the car, although it is a 'fair' mot - they don't let anything go through although it is a free retest if brought back in 7 days (lots of places don't do this anymore - technically they don't have to offer the free retest if the car is taken from their premises)

Sidelights - I don't think this place moaned about them but a previous MOT garage did - with the Euro headlights (i.e. halogen with H4 bulbs) normally these have inbuilt sidelights. There were already wires passing through the pivot on the HL for this purpose, but I suspect a previous owner put these in, I'm sure it's a straightforward job. I put these wires on bullet connectors along with the amber sidelights. That means I can swap between the two, since I often drive round at dusk without the headlights up but sidelights on. That way I switch it to the headlight sidelights before the MOT.

Hope you and Mrs Gixer are well
