A few days ago the car isn't for starting. Spins OK and catches but just stalls. Called out BMW Service and its an exhaust can position sensor. Hmm, that'll be 6 O2 sensors so far and now this! Where are BMW getting them from? eBay? In contrast the wifes Focus ST hasn't had a thing wromg in 50k mls.

Not had one go on my Z4MC, nor have I had any springs go - and mine's one of the 'earlier' 2006 models - now with 74k on it (65k in my ownership).

However, have had a VANOS oil leak, new engine, new diff, and a couple of relays for wipers.

Thank 'insert deity of your choice' for the warranty.

Mine chewed its way through 3 camshafts, 2 cam position sensors, 2 lambda sensors, 1 rear spring, six tubes of anusol and one new engine in 30,000 miles. Thank Ganesh indeed for mondial. The new engine was an absolute flyer though.

Surprised by the engine problems, do you think its been over-rev'd on the downshift?

No all the engine problems were caused by 1 manufacturing fault at build, well apart from the rear spring.

It's likely the O2 sensors were a symptom of a failing cam sensor before a code came up.

Oh, I forgot a rear spring and a handbrake ratchet. No way I'd have one without warranty.

37,000 miles, 5+ years and no sensor failures, no springs gone, no engine issues and still no extended warranty claims. Not even a bulb gone. God bless BMW and their reliable 'M' cars.

My 07 Z4MC only had a broken spring and exhaust sensor fail in 18 months, it was never anything less than ballistic and brilliant
