Executive models, making the luxury stuff obsolete in UK ?
Discussion
The A8 we have is now 5 years old. It’s the wife’s daily driver and it’s time to replace it. Was out with her today looking at A8, A7, and A6. MB E-class, S-class. BMW 7 series, 5 series. It dawned on me how good and accomplished the executives models are how they make the luxury barges seem so overpriced. The new Audi A6 is more than enough car for us. As would the 5 series BMW, can’t think why you would pat the extra for a 7 series other than willy waving rights?
Indeed. 5-series and E-class have had their bigger brothers outgunned in UK for more than a decade.

Meanwhile the "more money than sense" brigade have been queueing up to throw money at Q7, X6, Cayenne and all manner of over-weight, over-priced nonsense.

According to standard UK car classes, you're incorrect - the 7, S-Class, A8 are 'Luxury Cars'.
They are just top of the range cars from premium manufacturers, doesn't make them luxury, heck BMW refer to themselves as premium manufacturers.Have had my 7 for 3 years before that had a 5 for 3 months horriid little thing, noisy uncomfortable, the 7 is a leap on from the 5 if you spend 4/5 hours in it a day.
Having said that if I didn't do the miles I wouldn't have a 7 it would be back to a 911
Can't see me every buying a 5 there is just no comparison, would have the Bentley but clients would go nuts !!

Couldn't agree more- mine is a 2002 745li, and I adore it. By far the most comfortable thing I have ever driven, purchased for the practicality of being able to get 2 adults and a child in the back in comfort, and if I'm doing a lot of miles, I want to be comfy.Having said that if I didn't do the miles I wouldn't have a 7 it would be back to a 911

The E Class and the 5 series of today are nearly as big as the older luxury cars were. They have more than enough space, if not the refinement, the toys and the pleasure derived from knowing you have the best in the range. And we are in recession Britain!
I have a new model 5 series and agree that externally it is a large car, similar to older luxury cars. However, once inside they are large but certainly not huge. My 5 series has massive front seats, so much so that there is about the same rear legroom as my old Subaru Legacy.
Yes the Exec cars are large but with the refinement they now have, this does eat up interior space so I can see the point of a luxury car if you want to be say in the back in a luxurious manor

Okay, executive cars are one thing, but being chaffeur driven around inside your luxurious manor is taking it too far.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
