There were 2 ambulances attemoting to get thru heavy traffic tonight and as you would do, everyone was moving out of the way (into the side of the road!)

Then some idiot in a Honda Prelude came up the middle of the parted traffic queues following the ambulances at high speed!

He was obviously doing this so that he could skip the traffic jam!

Surely this is illegal and IMHO morally terrible!

Yeah...really bad! Not aware of a specific rule - it is a bit of an unwritten one that all of us adhere to - but 'driving without due care and attention (ie having regard for others around etc) or possibly even boardering on 'dangerous driving' IMO

Sometimes get crews who call this sort of thing in, if they have the time on the radio! Get statements off them later and go round to driver, interview and report if found enough evidence.

Just not cricket!

As a small 'what if? If there is a big incident, you often get the chiefs following their Ambulances and Fire Engines etc in their own vehicles, but they usually have blues and twos fitted. Something to watch out for

Yeh, my dad is a fire officer and he has his own red car with the blue lights fitted when on call (one of his colleagues has a civic type-r with blue lights!!)

This guy was obviously taking the pi55, he went into right turn lanes at every set of traffic lights then pulled back in further down the traffic jam! Then overtaking towards oncoming traffic on the bypass!

Ah yes, this is a very common manoeuvre, often referred to in the trade as

...'driving like a cu^t!'

His time will come...

I've done someone before for dangerous driving and it carried at court..

Guy got 10 points and a fine I can't remember......

CPS pointed out to magistrates that motorists expected emergency vehicles, but not civilian ones passing through at high speed. Consequently the driver's actions were 'far below' what was expected of a safe, careful and competant driver and therefore the offence was proved.

About a year ago this happened to me in Chester. And the driver who followed the ambulance though the traffic ? A bloody taxi !! I was livid - I got the number and was going to report them but after I calmed down I did not bother.

Was you there? Actually no I wasn't too close at all, but would you expect the car in front to go full on the brakes for absolutely no reason?

Liebchen - always expect the car in front to do something strange ...... Once had car in front of me stop dead after a spectacular cambelt failure..... Ach .... the importance of keeping two - three seconds away ....... and having the reactions of a ... cat und of course knowing the feel and control of the car ......and its braking capabilities ....

They are not training you properly .....

My motorcylce traning was always based around the car in front doing the TOTAL unexpected (apart from german cars not indicating - we now expect that ) so from my POV even a handbrake turn in the middle of a motorway from 90 would not come as a total surprise judging from the nobs on the road today

Put your fishing rod away Pussy Galore.

Liebchen - how did you guess that I wears the black leather (even tighter at present ) and high heels just like Pussy Galore in the film and when she was "Avenger" (Not that old - yet - they had re-run on the telly .......)

I ALWAYS expect the worst and prepare for it. When driving 1-2k miles a week every week (in my previous life) and seeing some AMAZINGLY bad driving in front, behind and around me and having advanced my road skills at every possible chance with tuition where I can...

Glad to hear that - but you only meet purrrrrr-fection in the North

mungo said:

I am usually very aware and watch every car, side road, drive, pedestrians, cyclists, cats,

Well - we do need every one of those 9 lives ..... especially when not in the North (where there is Purrrrr-fection )

mungo said:

dogs, birds(I say ding dong!),

Birds ..... think food .....

mungo said:

rats... you get the picture? ... around me and consider what the possibilities could be and prepare and ready for them

Up here - it is the sheep....... have been known to run over the odd rabbit. Shame to waste it - made nice stew .....

mungo said:

But guess what Pussy Galore ... we aren't all perfect and we all sometimes make mistakes...

Especially in the South and South East... but here in the North West - we have Purrrrrrrrr-fection Home of three of my cousins plus me, and my husband and two of his siblings ..... that is why - of course

mungo said:

however, on this occasion my quick reflex's and amazing brakes were more than up to the situation

Sometimes you strike lucky if the less than purrrrrrr-fect South...

Good job you had those brakes and reflexes tested though

Makes no odds. If you cannot stop in the distance you can see to be clear then you are too close. You got away with it on this occasion.

You'll get the hang of it when you've done your response driving course.

... and you have experienced my driving before and know what it's like? Get a life or grow up - It's got to be one of those two but I don't know you so won't pretend I know which option best suits you

I guess they don't teach new BIB recruits etiquette, or a sense of humour these days either.

It's no wonder you get no public sympathy.
