Ok - this is all purely hypothetical, as i am in no financial position to purchase the car.

BUT having noticed an unregistered, delivery mileage Jaguar XJ220 for sale. I was wondering about the following....

If you were to register it, would it be registered on a plate from its year of manufacture or on a new 2012 registration?

Would the car have to meet current 'new car' legislation?

Having only covered 154 miles since 1993, would the car instantly need tens of thousands of pounds in re-commissioning work for seized and perished parts?

Are Don Law still involved with the upgrading and servicing of XJ220's?

Would have to go through today's tests which make it a massive pain. One of the guys did it with a Noble M400 and they picked us thousands of faults and failed on random completely normal things that are in every other Noble out there.

Could you register it abroad, somewhere less strict, then import it? Or would it have to meet the same tests?

If its never been registered it would be given a plate for the year its registered, not the year it was built

Nope, as my post above, once he'd finally got it through it was given an 06 plate as that's the approx year it would of been. It was registered at the start of this year

Nope.

The rule is....

Until the car is three years old: It will be given a plate that is current at time of registration

Once it's over three years old: It will be a assigned a plate that was current at time of original build.

So why was a B5 RS4 registered on an 05 plate then?
It was stolen in 2000 before it was first ever registered, then recovered and sat unregistered at an Audi dealers until 2005. Then it was put on the road on an 05 plate

Don Law still does any work required.

Maybe the rules have changed. I was about to post about the unregistered South Hereford 20v quattro that was eventually registered as a 97-R prefix because if they'd left it any longer it would never have passed an MOT.

You will always get the odd one that slips through... pretty much like the odd Cat B making it back to the road.
