I've got a Manfrotto 393 head, no issues with it at all.
Once the lens is mounted and I've found the neutral position (only takes a few seconds), it remains perfectly balanced, very smooth and very well made.
Think they're only £150 max, less if you shop around, so a fair bit cheaper than the Wimberleys.
