More detailed options for those who haven't fitted them would have been good!
E46 328i, which I very much love, is staying on RE050As this winter. Thankfully I won't need to do too many miles, unluckily a lot of the ones I do will be country lanes and the like! I would have liked to get another set of wheels (or even just use the same set, since they're only 16s) and get some proper winter rubber on there until April or so, but funds don't allow right now.
I did have winters on my '96 A4 last year.

Suggestions welcome
don't only give options that imply the person not fitting winter tyres is making a totally irrational decision/big headed/etc., If I lived somewhere that had more snow than a few days a year - then I would have a different set of tyres on the carHow about
I live close to a well gritted route to work, and if that is blocked I'll work from home
The region I live doesn't get much snow and/or heavy frosts - so I can usually cope with driving very cautiously on short commute to work.
The best fit for me is "I'd like to but can't justify it".
I live in Essex. I managed to get a FWD V6 Alfa on summer tyres 45 miles each way commuting in -14 temperatures and virgin snow last year. My current steed is Swedish, with traction control and "Winter mode". It was fine and dandy in the ice last week. I feel the biggest risk is from other drivers, and better tyres won't stop them hitting me...

I'll stay at home if it snows
And added the last option for the clinically insane
The option I would have ticked would be
" Winter tyre folk are just A to B dogooders who expect to turn up at their destination whereas I am more PH which means my middle name is Flashheart. Although I may get stuck I will have at least 3 young ladies to keep me warm. I can just melt snow with all the wheelspin I generate after watching 3 video's of Chris "Bomber" Harris on Drive. If, and I repeat if, I ever have to resort to FWD, I will just reverse my Russian 2013 TVR at 50mph whilst looking in the rear view mirror and listening to instructions from my rear gunner who is called Ginger"

The vast majority of the time - the gritters do a good job, and the ones where they have failed it is often either weather issues (as in rained then frozen) or idiots have panicked and left early blocking all the roads so gritters can't get there. Where as those of us that waited haven't had too much issues getting home, all be it leaving late.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
