Thought I'd introduce myself to the track day section! My name's Ben, I'm 17 and have just started what I'm sure is to be a long line of track days.

I was at Snetterton this weekend in the dark green MX5 with tan hood and black wheels, not sure if anybody else from PH was there? Hopefully I didn't get in anyones way too much in the morning - I was a little quicker in the evening session!

Here's a quick video of a 'moment' I had early in the day, it proved extremely hard to get any heat into the tyres in the morning session. ETA - the second link below is of a few full laps in the afternoon session. If you'd rather not watch the full 7 minutes skip to 4:50 which is the hot lap.

Vid 1 - Slide on track
Vid 2 - Afternoon session

So, from me, wavey

They're great cars!

The vid of the last session is just uploading to YouTube, taking ages though. The 'victims' include a 993 Carrera S, Vauxhall Monaro, and a Morgan of some sort. I'll post the link up when it's done smile

This was me by the way...

Tried Toyo T1Rs in the morning and R888s in the afternoon, both were pretty rubbish on that surface!

I was with a blue Celica and a white Evo, we all got a good amount of laps in and had a great time.

As a Porsche fan, the two 911s were indeed disappointingly slow! I was particularly pleased to pass the yellow Monaro just because he had about 30 stickers all over his car showing the different tracks he'd been to! smile

I didn't see much of you throughout the day, I think I remember you passing me once. The same goes for the Evo and Celica, we must've been out at different times.

Ok, the video has uploaded. Excuse my excitement when we pass the Monaro hehe My uncle is in the passenger seat - as you can see he was loving it, was a really enjoyable day. It's about 7 minute clip, so if you don't want to watch all of it, skip to 4:50 where the 'hot lap' starts. smile

Was this the red one with the bonnet open at the start of the day? If so, we came and asked you lot what to do and where to sign on etc - not sure if you remember us? Car looked absolutely amazing btw thumbup

I do remember indeed smile How was your first outing on track?

Yeah - I literally finished building it on friday, at the dyno to be mapped and then 3.30AM start for Snetterton.
It's a 450bhp MINI so a few of the MINI guys were interested in having a nosey under the bonnet smile

Glad your first outing was successful, it wasn't a bad day all in all.

Looks like you lifted which flicked it back the other way.

Apply opposite lock and reduce throttle slightly and the rear won't snap back into line (which often flicks it the other way) however it is a good way to learn what to do next time when there's an armco next to you.

Good driving, good base to build upon. Is it your car ?

Did you take any instruction throughout the day ?

I understand all the theory behind controlling the slides, it's just putting it into practice which is the hard part hehe I've done some driver training and the instructor has said I am a little quick to come off the throttle if the car goes into a big slide - need to work on that aspect.

It is my car, and no I didn't take any instruction. smile
