My 18 year old sons GF bought a 52 plate mini cooper last month with 70K on the clock & FSH. Cracking little car, the car was a Cat D back in 2006 but I had a good look over it and couldn't find a single fault on it. All the pannels were straight, shut gaps spot on It had, what I believe to be the Full Chilli pack panoramic sun roof, full leather interior, Chrome wheel arch covers rather than black etc.
Fast forward 2 weeks. She's involved in a Head on while in the mini. She was stationary while an old bloke in a 53 plate Citroen Xsara Picasso overtakes a parked Police car at in excess of the 30mph speed limit..... BANG. hits her head on. Both cars written off and thankfully both occupants only suffer seatbelt injuries. The picasso was really mullered, to the extent that the driver had to be cut out. The mini, though having the nearside front virtually ripped off was still intact. The safety cell doing it's job with no protrusions into the cabin.

Apart from being horrified that her dream car is now being consigned to the big scrap heap in the sky, she was so happy with the Mini that she is off to get another one (as soon as the insurance pays out).

I just hope this one lasts longer than 2 weeks (Accident was not her fault according to the police)

Wowzers great to hear no-one was hurt.

Amazing for a 10 year old car.

French cars on the other hand...wouldn't touch one with yours. They open up like a tin can in an accident.

I've seen some pretty horrendous accidents involving MINI's, they are incredibly strong little cars and stand up to an awful lot.

Glad to hear all are ok.

I'd agree that there strong as well! This was our three week old clubman rear ended at approx closing speed of 52mph with 4 adults and a 7 month old baby inside. We all were looked after very well by the car, so well in fact were looking forward to our replacement and I've bought a cooper s coupe myself as a runabout.

One of the reasons we upgraded to a Mini from a 206.

I believe the strength in the a-pillar and roof is amongst the strongest of any car in production, never mind small cars.
Funny, That is exactly the same upgrade as my sons GF did. P/X her 206 for her dream car

I've had a ~50mph rear end in my convertible and it held up very well too.

This wee Mini saved both me and my 3 year old son:

Ouch - good to see you made it out.

In most cars I think that would be a pancaked roof.
No damage to either of us whatsoever!

That is pretty impressive, though by the looks of it you weren't too far off drowning.

Glad you & your son survived intact, though I bet it was a bit shocking ending up upside down near a water course. I would have kacked myself with major damage to my underpants.eek

Very close acquaintance rolled one (with 3 others in the car) then demolished a fence. Every airbag despatched, one passenger in rear had a painful knee and driver got a mild bump on bonce from the quite large interior mirror. That was it!

Random but can you get 2 adults and a baby in the back of those!?

Yes but you have to specify a 5th seat before build otherwise it comes with just 4 seats, same goes with roof bars in that there a no cost option which needs to be selected if required.
If you meant space wise then the two adults in the back are Japanese therefore live on raw fish and are tiny!
