2001 XJR Nav/Aux in?
Discussion
I've been trying to use one of those dummy cassette things to play music/take calls/ listen to SatNav off my phone through my tape player but it's a bit rubbish to be honest due to cellphone chatter interference.
I've also tried one of those FM modulator things but that was worse.
I noticed my sound system has a redundant 'Nav' button, (don't have the disk drive!), so I was wondering if there was a spare auxiliary audio input I could utilise for my mobile phone.
If not, has anyone got any other bright ideas for getting handsfree functionality through their stereo?

I was looking at this 'how to' description just the other day: http://www.kelsey-forums.co.uk/cgi-bin/jwm/YaBB.pl...I've also tried one of those FM modulator things but that was worse.

i have the iphone plumbed in to the cd player on one car, it means you cant use the cd player but its pretty good, although it doesnt charge as it goes into the headphone port
and i have the dummy cassette as well as the cd player in the other, im not sure if i am understanding this correctly, but you can plug your phone into the dummy cd and use your system as hands free and put your music on your phone and use that instead of ipod?
i think i have the nav cd in my xjr satnav, if you arent in a hurry i could maybe do you a copy? not sure it will work though

i don't have an iPhone, I use and Android phone. I don't mind it not charging as I can, (and do), use a seperate cigarette lighter adapter.lestershaw said:

7Yeah, if I plug the dummy cassette into the headphone jack, I can have phone calls, tunes and satnav playing through the car speakers off my phone.

You misunderstand, I don't have the Jag Sat-Nav, but I do have a redundant button on the head unit. I was wondering if there was any way to use the input for the Sat-Nav as an input for the Android device.Ecurie Ecosse said:
The previous owner did a nifty patch on mine where the iPhone is plugged into the CD changer, and gets charged too.
Yeah, I've seen talk of this from various Google searches I've done.I think this'll be the way forward, but I'm a little hesitant to lose the CD changer. Why, I don't know, but I am!
sorry i didnt mean i had the iphone plumbed in, i meant i had a lead plumbed i that i can attach to any music player, including phones
i find that the cassette option works well, but if you push the jack in too far you get muffled mono, so its a bit fiddly.
i do find that even though i have lots of cds, that i end up playing the same ones again all the time and the same tracks! i have 3 cartridges that fit which gives me 18 to choose from and i still play the same ones :-)
the cassette option is only £5

I don't get any chatter at all it's very good quality. Quite pleased really as only my chimaera doesnt have a tape player. There is another option for getting your music on your sound system it's a parrot asteroid. About £260 but it looks good in a jag. Check them out on eBay
I'll look them up, but maybe I just need a better dummy cassette. I think the wire picks up radio transmissions and puts them through the tape head(s)Which type in particular do you use? I'd be happy with a dummy tape solution.

Mine is charged as it plugs into the charger bit at the bottom.and i have the dummy cassette as well as the cd player in the other, im not sure if i am understanding this correctly, but you can plug your phone into the dummy cd and use your system as hands free and put your music on your phone and use that instead of ipod?

Nice holder on the dash means you can use the iPhone for Sat Nav too, with the navigation coming through the speakers.
