Car been rear-ended, advice needed
Discussion
Some idiot has just driven into the back of my car, there doesn't look to be too much damage but the bumper is creased.
I have contacted Admiral who put me through to Albany Assist. They have suggested a local bodyshop for the repair work (which are approved jag and land rover). I have a BMW 1 series (18months old) and have asked for it to be BMW approved, so referred back to Admiral.
The nearest they can find is 48 miles away, so I now have to get a main dealer to quote and an independent garage, then send the quotes and await Admiral to approve it, I of course then have to pay the excess ad claim this back.
Would you just use the original bodyshop (jag and land rover approved) instead of the hassle of gaining quotes etc and christmas. If I go with the suggested one, I don't have to pay my excess as all done through Albany Assist.
I could do without this hassle

Your car needs to be repaired by a BMW approved bodyshop to maintain your anti corrosion warranty - tell your insurers that and see what they say.
If they try and wriggle, ask them for a signed letter stating that they will cover the cost of any corrosion repairs for the duration offered by BMW should any claim in the future be rebuffed.

Thanks for that, I will get it done by BMW, just could do without having to get all the quotes. Thankfully have legal cover so will get the money back for all the travelling etc.If they try and wriggle, ask them for a signed letter stating that they will cover the cost of any corrosion repairs for the duration offered by BMW should any claim in the future be rebuffed.
Someone drove into the back of me, and my insurers tried to push me into using Albany for a loan car whilst mine was being repaired, but having read the horror stories from googling them, I just waited until the 3rd party admitted liability then contacted the 3rd parties insurance, and arranged it through them. Very painless experience!
This was only for a hire car though, not the full process, but I dont seem why, assuming they have admitted liability, the 3rd party wouldn't be very happy to sort it out, rather than pay Albanys massively dragged out hire-car cost.

(From my googling..) The main risks are that,
a) The 3rd party insurers dont admit liability - Albany will then chase you for the cost as you signed a credit hire agreement to get the car.
b)The 3rd party refuse to pay an over-inflated bill for the hire car and Albany take them to court, you get dragged into the fray.
You dont really benefit from Albany handling the hire car, your insurance co get a referral fee and Albany get a bundle of risk-free cash for doing very little.
Those were my main objections to refusing to have anything to do with them.

Interesting to campare this to Swiftcover when the same thing happened to me.
They sorted the whole thing ou - my 335d was repaired at a BMW dealer 20 miles away (who collected and returned the car), and a Saab 9-3 courtesy car provided by Enterprise (upgraded from a 1-litre box when I asked). I didn't have to shell out a penny because it was a no-fault claim and no clamis management company was involved at any time.
Overall it was a relatively painless process.

Well at the moment BMW aren't even responding to my phonecalls, have left my number with them twice to call me back and haven't heard anything.
Admiral have been good so far, have phoned me daily to give me an update on what's happening. The other insurance company is swiftcover and apparently they refuse to do anything over the phone so Admiral have to initiate it in writing (how stupid is that).
Have realised there is more damage than I first thought as the alignment around my boot is all out

Can't fault their service when I was rear ended in 2011.
