Just heard an advert for organ donations that really suprised me..
Gist - Statistically, more black people need organ donations than white people. Therefore, black people wait longer than white people for transplants. To fix this, more black people need to register for organ donation.
All very well and good, but how has this not been objected to by the hand wringing 45 year old middle class tosspots that derail any other thing that includes colour to seperate groups? I'm all for the advert, BTW - IMO everyone should be a donor unless a long opt out form is done, not like I need my own spleen if I'm dead. I'm just taken aback that the NHS, as possibly the king of utterly pointless equality posts / this leaflet is available in klingon and you can opt to be treated by a Jedi doctor b

So medical types, is there a reason to imply that black organs and white organs are different (c.f blood types, or bone marrow matches for transplants), or is this clever marketing to target a group that is under represented in overall donor numbers?

I agree with you in part, I too hate the double standards of race relations we see today but if lots of black people need blood/organs fromother black donors and there aren't enough black donors then something has to be done. k who what they needed came from but if it has to match then they need to donate.White and black organs aren't different (as such), but you have a better shot of matching a donor/recipient if they are from the same race (or family) as they are more likely to share the same HLA loci, etc

Quite. I can't believe the OP is serious - tinfoil hat and less Daily Mail needed if so!

So, as the poster above has said, the answer to my question is "yes", or close to it. In case I didn't explain myself in the first post, I think the ad is a good idea, I'm just suprised that it wasn't stopped by some daft committee that gets offended on other's behalf.
