Finally got myself a winter car
Discussion
A VXR8 is a good call... my two criteria were:
1, must be better on fuel (>20mpg)
2, and better in snow.
I don't think I've done too badly have I?
The ironic thing is that it cost more than my cerb to buy, but I bought it thinking of it as almost sacrificial for the winter, as I didn't want a repeat of my escapades a few years ago.
Common sense (to me at least)

I had the same set of rules for my winter car, unfortunatly it turns out a 4.4 V8 Range Rover does about 9mpg 1, must be better on fuel (>20mpg)
2, and better in snow.

what happened ????since my last vehicle was a topless beach buggy gp mk 1 on a 1954 donor vehicle , that i used as a daily drive for 7 years , having endured all weathers with a variety of clothing in the back for any event, and all manner of road trips, needless to say i have been recovered more times than my insurance was willing to pay for , i feel the cerb is a very sensible choice for the winter as it has a heater and a roof.
p.s beach buggy in the heavy snow lotta fun .
Now a beach buggy sounds like great fin in the snow, but probably not too much fun doing 500 miles or so a week.
I managed to put my chim on it's roof a few years ago, there is a thread on here started by me if anyone wants all the gory details.
Still upsets me that I've smashed one of my all time favourite cars, and from my all time favourite maker.
And yes, it's taken me 2 days to realise how terrible it is in even a heavy frost.... but damn good fun!

Well as my Cerb is with TVR Central until February ( Respray and Interior work ) i went down the winter toy route too. Picked up an ML55, which compared to the Cerb. Turns out there's less off on the road, has more problems than and uses more fuel... but four wheel spin and a but of a V8 gurgle can't be bad. : )
it does seem the cerb is a remarkably bad drive in bad weather, i drove from bristol to london at 4 am sat morning 2 weeks back, (the first incidence of freezing fog and it was continous pretty much from city to city), i was being overtaken by extremely lame vehicles, i was shocked at how awful an experience it was. and for once the heater couldnt keep me warm.

I don't agree. I founds cerbs to be very predictable and typical for a powerful rwd light car. Short shifting is fine. Loud pedal limited use. No major issues. Whereas merc and BMW autos in the snow and ice are useless. I just bought a 2nd land rover for the winter though.
