I'm getting my OH a 3DS for christmas as she has an old DS and all the new games will be 3DS exclusive.

My question is... is the XL worth the extra money? I don't mind paying for it but just wondered if it is even worth it? Does it make much difference?

Looked at both yesterday for daughter. XL feels nicer, more upmarket etc, but it is alot heavier and doesn’t come with a charger.

We haven't decided which to get.

Oh and the 3d = instant headache/blurred vision

Thanks for replying. I'd heard that it did not come with a charger, any reason? Seems stupid!

I hadn't even considered that the 3D would be that bad! Hmmm... maybe need a new plan. bks... I had this all decided but can't make my mind up!

the 3D on 3ds's is fine, its only a small percent of people that get headaches.

i can see it fine just so you know, get no headaches or blurry vision.

its not a on/off switch either, you can set it to a certain level of 3dness.

Correct - Nintendo's rationale was that the vast majority of people would be trading up and would already have one.

I bought a 3DS XL for my wife, to replace her years old DS Lite. So, they were right to that extent - but the Lite has a different charger to the XL so I had to buy one anyway.

You don't HAVE to use the 3D. You can just turn the slider down and play it as a 2D game. I personally don't think the 3D is too bad.

If you can afford the extra, go for the XL. My wife much prefers the bigger screens. Unless your OH is going to be carrying it around a lot, and so size is an issue, bigger is better in my view.

Thanks for all your help guys. I got her a 3DS XL in White with Mario Kart 7 so she will love that. She can now trade in her dsi and old games for some new games.

Thanks again!
