Not a particularly excting topic and perhaps I am being daft, but I have an issue with my Mk1 MX5 in that the only remaining original key is bent with a hairline crack.

Having noticed this I got it to a metal shop quickly and had them do me some copies after squeezing the original in a vice to try and get it as straight as possible.

Now.

- I don't use the original in the ignition as am paranoid it will snap
- The copy will work in the ignition but not the passenger side lock or the boot lock
- The original will still open the boot but not a long term solution

So in summary my only good key will start the car but won't open the boot and struggles with the car doors.

I am reluctantly selling the car soon and this certainly won't be a selling point!

What are my options, short of getting a whole new lock set installed?

Get a better copy made.

Or try deburring one of the copies - sometimes they are dreadful and a quick going over with some fine sandpaper can make a big difference.

Will that even be possible with the original in it's current state?

I will try getting a key-maker to run the existing copy through again to see if it loosens it up a bit.

Theres only so much that the keymaker can do with a manual machine. My MK2 MX5 (RIP) key copy would 'just' work in the drivers door and that was it, the original was worn as anything
. Porbably could have used a flat screwdriver to start it!

Ok, that sounds like a plan - once I have the code can any keymaker get one made for me? How would I go about finding the code?
