Champix and quitting for 2013
Discussion
Hi All,
I just had a flick through the quitting for new year thread and thought I'd post about my experience of Champix.
I'm posting now as those of you thinking about quitting for the beginning of 2013 should probably think about getting some of the "little blue pills" pretty soon if it's a route you want to follow.
I was a 20 a day man without fail. First one in the car on my way to work, another with a my morning cuppa and then continuously throughout the day. 20 a day for 15 years.
I often have wanted to quit but the feeling soon disappeared when I got the hump or had a pint in my hand.
I stopped on the 1st Dec (about 12 days after starting Champix) and to be honest haven't looked back. Don't get me wrong, they aren't a miracle cure and the first day was hard. Luckily I had people around who knew it was quit day and helped me keep my focus. Day 2 and 3 were the same, not easy but slightly better.
I now no longer really think about smoking, and when I do it's for a split second. I don't crave a ciggie like I use to when I tried giving up, nor do I think about one very few minutes. It's almost like they've been wiped from my consciouness. I feel like I never smoked and it's only been 10 days (and nearly 90 quid!). These pills appear not to replace your nicotine craving, they just get rid of it.
Zero side effects apart from some strange dreams. After a few days the fags didn't taste all that great but being a smoker I battled through and smoked anyway, although found myself not smoking as often as I didn't really fancy it as much. I almost got to the point where I was forcing myself to smoke.
Anyway, if you are thinking of quitting for the new year and have failed before with NRT etc. then I can highly recommend Champix. I use to love smoking, it was one of my favourite things. Not any more. It doesn't really cross my mind.
Feel free to ask any questions, happy to answer if I can.
