Hi

A friend has a problem with his 2005 407 HDI

He said that after filling with Diesel, on a round trip of 60miles it stuttered slightly whilst driving, he presumed it was a little bit of dirt in the fuel lines etc.

Got home and left it for a few days before returning to find it will no longer start.

It has fired a couple of times to cut out, it cranks but does not start

Any ideas chaps?

Jack.

How certain is he that it was diesel that he filled up with? This is sounds very similar to when my dad drove my old fiesta and accidently filled it with petrol instead of diesel.

It stuttered slightly when driving and once turned off wouldn't restart. It took us until we got the fuel filter off and could smell it to realise what had happened.

That was my first though, too.

Indeed, most faults related to the 407 would result in it going into "limp home mode" at first, not just a stutter.

He said he went through half a tank before this happened

My dad didn't go through half a tank in mine but did drive it for 15 to 20 minute before it was turned off and it only stuttered towards the end of that (car was nearly empty before filling).

I suppose it would depend on how much diesel was left in the tank before he filled up? I would tell him to check his reciept if he got one.

Also, 60 mile round trip on half a tank?!

Yep, the pump will sometimes stick and a jolt will get it to run up...very temp' repair though!

Most common fault is the LP fuel pump in the tank getting lazy. If it dies altogether, there is a slim chance that it will tear part of the filter and send metal particles down the fuel line to wreck the HP pump and injectors... frown
