Interested in hearing some ownership/driving stories, and post up some pics too smile

Anybody driven my11 and pre my11? How much better is my11 in comparison?

Anybody had a Litchfield stage 1 or 2? How does that feel in comparison to standard?

Anyone had any problems, minor or serious? Apparently there's a possible bellhousing problem?

How much do you guys pay for a set of tyres, and is the nitrogen thing just a gimmick, other performance cars are fine on 78%n/21% oxygen lol.

I'm looking to buy at the moment, but there are quite a few on the market and am in no rush, probably looking for a my11 in ultimate silver or daytona blue. Dealers don't seem very keen to accept offers or lower prices though, quite surprised given the time of year. Anybody have any stories of getting a good deal?

Cheers smile

Have a look on the GTROC forum and you will find all the answers you are looking for.I bought a MY09 car in may this year and it is fantastic.Ive not driven a MY11,they are of course better but the improvements are only slight tweaks here and there and you need to weigh up whether or not they are worth the substantial premium over the MY09/10 cars esp when you consider you can modify the car yourself to far better for a fraction of the cost.

The nitrogen tyre is mainly to help stop tyre pressure raising if you track the car and is not really necessary for general road use.

The bell housing rattle affects all cars and can strike at any age/mileage.If the car is still under the 3 year warranty nissan will replace it with a new one that rattles even more! Some of the top tuners are now offerring a permanant replacement fix now for around £750 fitted. My car is 3.5 yrs old with 17k miles and the bellhousing is fine though some have gone in less than 5k miles!

Mate all the info you will ever need can be found here

http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/nissan-gt-r.html

Had mine since Feb this year and I can honestly say its the best car I've ever owned. Soooo much fun and so far no issues at all. I do a lot of early morning runs with some pals in the Kent section and she never ever fails to impress. Biggest shock to me was how tail happy she can be : ) basically all drive goes to the back and only gets thrown up front to help punt it out of corners. Even in R mode there is a lot of slip to be had, which for me equals fun!!!! Just ask my mates that follow on he runs lol.

I came from a Noble which I owned for 3 years, then a Porker Turbo which again I had for 3 years. Both great cars but this one beats them both for me personally. Just awesome. I'm never letting her go and just plan on going down the modding route. Remember stage 1, or should I say Y pipe and a re map brings even a early model up to around 580 brake : ) if getting a pre '11 then the gearbox software update for £300 is a must. I have the 2012 software and its silky smooth.

Right that's enough of me going on lol. Just check out he forum and jump on the search function. For other feedback from me just hit my profile tab and check out my threads ; )

They're not for every one mate but I love it!!!

Thanks for replies guys, just looked on autotrader again and this has been listed just down the road from me, it's a 2008 import on 15k miles, a bit older than I wanted, if you've got time click on the link and tell me what you think smile

I have had my April 09 car since July 2010 and had the bellhousing done under warranty early this year. In May I had the stage 1 done by Litchfields which made a considerable difference to performance and sound. Mine has done about 25.5k miles now and is still loosening up.

It reallys is an astonishing car, I live and work in London so don't use it on a daily basis but it is my only car for the last 18 months and is pretty easy to live with.

They are on the whole reliable and durable, I would get a UK car if possible.

Good luck!

Just sold mine. It was. 2009 model with 32k on the clock.

As a study in what's possible it's simple amazing. The fools who say they lack feel or personality have either never driven one or they cling to brand and badge snobbery. Just test drive one. You'll be in love!

The only downside for me is that the car is too heavy. You do feel the weight when driving and although it does handle weight transfer brilliantly it's still 1800+kgs. That's a lot of tyre and brake wear - so it's not cheap to run. The oem dunlops are around 500 quid a corner but there are cheaper bridgestones and now litchfield are offering michelins I think.

Litchfield are excellent. Iain is honest and knowledgeable - so as soon as the car is out of warranty most people on the gtr forum go there. The stage 1 upgrade is obvious and the biggest leap. Throttle response and outright power are vastly improved. You get a better note from the exhaust too. If you can do it then the stage 4 is frankly mental, but stage 1/2 is enough for most.

I'd avoid an import - go for uk cars only. Check the bell housing - They all rattle a bit but the early cars were worse. Mine was replaced under warranty. Also check the lights on the instrument dials. If they're not working then the answer is to replace the whole instrument binnacle. Otherwise they're robust cars - the gearbox will clonk and clang - all normal.

Go for it!

Personally I wouldn't get an import.Yes they are cheaper but they came with a few teething problems esp with the gearbox and even though this one seems to have had gearbox work I would still avoid. Not sure what your budget is but if you were considering a MY11 I would imagine you have a bit more to play with.

Ideally you want to find a good honest UK car, this one stands out for me,virtually identical to how mine was when I purchased it.

Also dont expect to find the right car on your doorstep. They are rare cars so be prepared to travel to find the right car.
I had to make a 280 mile round trip TWICE to get my car, worth it though!

Thanks for new replies, I'm leaning towards a Litchfield stage 1 or 2 with a years warranty. Looked on their website but they don't seem to turn over many cars, the same ones have been listed as sold for ages. I'm thinking about taking a look at that import though, wondering about the mileage as it seems too low and the clock's probably been changed to a uk.

Ned, my original choice was gunmetal grey, but saw the U silver and liked it. then I saw this and liked it more...

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

... exchanged a few emails with the guy, but he won't answer whether there's any outstanding finance on the car so it looks like a dead end. He also sold it on abay last week then relisted, something doesn't add up.

Deeps, as others have already said I would buy a UK car mate. Early imports had the aggressive LC1 (Get out of snow mode lol) and obviously the big thing back then was launching them. This meant that a fair few over seas suffered gearbox issues. Not a case over here and if you contact Litchfield Iain can give plenty of advice and reassurance. I emailed him before buying and he said he hadn't had a a problem with UK cars and even put me off of wasting my money on certain mods, great honest guy.

Agree that the Stage 1 makes a massive difference. I mean 80-90 extra brake and Torque is a massive step.

Tyres wise mate Camskill are the guys or if you are lucky like me to be near Kaizer, then you get a good deal there as Sly price matches. Mich Pilot Super Sports all in for £1160. Oh and going non run flat absolutely transforms the car on the road. Perhaps not the out right grip on the track but for road driving they are a must. No tram lining and far better ride quality. Add thsoe together and it means you can cover the same ground even quicker lol.

Go look at a few mate to get an idea and try to stay level headed. I did a big old round trip for mine twice, but it was by far the best I'd seen and totally worth the drive home ; )

Good luck mate and keep us posted.

Had one, hated it, nowt to do with badge snobbery, thought the ride was outrageously bad, just too big, and felt heavy. It is a very compelling ownership proposition, and I completely understand why people like them, just wasn't for me, and I don't miss it anything like as much as the Audi R8 that came before it.

Sorry to hear that mate, but as I said not for every one. At the end of the day we all like different things and if we didn't the world would be a boring place lol.

It's funny as I've driven (pretty hard too) a V10 R8 whilst I owned the Porker. I loved it and it was certainly on the wish list. However for me personally the R35 pips it for excitement, although that said the V10 sounded sweeeeeeeeeeet and I love the looks. To the OP, the ride is certainly firm in the GTR and before changing my tyres it would tramline and need to be in comfort for normal uk roads. However non run flats transform it : ) even ride in normal or R now when on full attack ; )

ZIp, thanks for the kind comment mate.

I have owned an my09 since almost new. 3 years old 27,000 miles no problems. 15,000 miles on a stage 5 750hp tune with all supporting mods to brakes and suspension... Litchfield tuned and serviced. My advice would be to give Iain a call he is selling gtrs for customers on word of mouth, ignore his website. Nitrogen is only useful for track use, and then it's a pia. As tyres get hot the pressure rises slower and more consistently. If you top one up with air the pressure goes up quicker Than the others as they got hot... Not an issue if you are not a track we.

If you like trackdays get a track car weighing in below the magic 1000kg otherwise a gtr can bankrupt you with tyres and brakes unless you have the means.. I run toyo's, Alcon disk and pagid pads which is a great combo but 5k plus for a complete replacement set which is completely possible after say 6 trackdays and a few thou road miles....

Overall great car, best value for money supercar money can buy. Bit of a lard arse but hides it well. Generally reliable with solutions for all known faults via independents. Plenty of character but not like an Italian mark, and not quite the overall quality of a performance German car. Gtroc is a good place for stories and ownership. litchfield website has a good review of the ring trip earlier this year. i took mine for testing tyres michellin and suspension billstein with iain and co. managed to do 30-130 testing and top speed at marham on the saturday before with evo boys and gals. drove to the ring on monday for two days testing 89 laps gp and 12 nordschleife then back on wednesday for school run in the gtr. 1500 miles of abuse and not an issue....Hope this helps.

Had my 2009 GTR from new, had the bellhousing replaced twice, had the solenoid issue on my gearbox (replaced under warranty) then had a syncro issue but due to modifications had to have repaired outside of warranty. My car is now SVM 650R with a built transmission, considerably faster than stock and a MY12, even stage 2 is noticeably faster circa 580/90bhp and 600ftlbs+

Its a fantastic car, if you are looking to purchase and have the inclination to modify i think the pre MY11 cars represent much better value. The MY11 ono suspension is more comfy on a daily basis than the 09/10 cars, but I hear excellent reviews of the Litchfield suspension kit and passengered in a car at Silverstone with this suspension and is was very compliant.
