The handbook says 24 rear 22 front but I run my 3000S with 24 rear 26 front which someone recommended to me.

No I'm out and about in it enjoying the sun while it lasts. However, I am getting withdrawal symptoms from not being ably to use the Vixen though due to a lack of radiator. Hopefully this will be resolved in the next week or two.

On 14" 195/70s I used to run 24 all round, 34 is way too much!!!

When I 'upgraded' to 15's (205/55 and 225/50) I used to run 22 all round.

Let some air out - Hope that helps

I'm near High Wycombe in Bucks. I've actaully got a guy in Scotland building me a new one from scratch at the moment which should be ready at the end of next week. Mind you it was mean't to be ready at the end of July. The old one got totally wrecked, don't ask

Thanks for the offer

No problem Nigel. I have some plans for the silver series 1 vixen. In a couple of months the radiator won't be required. if the other guy lets you down, give me a shout, I can then either lend you a rad or you can make me an offer.

Regards
Neil.

An interesting move. 205/55/16 and 225/55/16 would have maintained the original rolling radius and suspension angles.

The rolling diameter was about 20mm smaller for each wheel dropping the height by about 10mm (on wheels/tyres). But when you take into account 5mm of possible tread wear on any combination, ther's not a lot in it.

I went for 15's as I don't think the cars look right on anything bigger, and more importantly with low profile tyres (stiffer sidewalls) there would be more work to do in the rear wheel arches to gain clearance on full suspension travel. I had 9 inch rear rims and was running the smallest (narrowest) type I could get away with!

I was running a full Leda shock absorber package with Adrian Venn's special springs. The car was fully cornerweighted and the handling/grip was astonishing!

Over 100mph (genuine) through the Cramer Curves at Donnington, no need to lift!

Ground Clearance suffered a bit though and with my bunch of bananas exhaust I had around 3 inches at the lowest point!

IBTW I agree that 'normally' on a 15" wheel you would run a 205/60 to keep the rolling radius the same, however there was one other influence - sticky rubber. Since I was sprinting and hillclimbing the car I wanted sticky rubber and the accepted standard at the time was the Bridgestone S02 Pole Position, so the availability of this tyre in various sizes also influenced my decison.

Hope that helps

Thanks for that reply. A friend at work (CJL) is running 16x7 rims from image that look surprisingly well and still don't have a bone jarring ride. I did not imagine that you were on 9" rims and am a little surprised that you could run a 205 on that - did you have any problems? It sounds like you had a well thought out and very quick car. Like you I fiind that the availability of UHP rubber inthe correct sizes a difficult balance.

The fronts were 15x7 the rears 15x9, sorry for the confusion.

The car was great when fully sorted, I don't have it now, after it was sold, varioius bits disappeared off it and last night I heard that the current owner had had an accident in it!

I would throughly recommend the Leda's and cornerweighting, it made the car (and the driver) much more confident. If the cars only for raod use though, Konis can be good. In 12 years of M ownership I tried just about every available shock absorber!

Traction was bit tricky in the went though!
