I have a situation on my hands which is going to have to be sorted;

My car is in between Top of the Red and 1/4 of a tank of petrol, should I fill it up and then just keep topping up with fuel?
Or should I just keep on putting fuel in, say half a tank, then running it down to the red, ten half again etc

I'm not a high mileage person and only use the car around town, oh and it is petrol, just with Winter coming, is it worth filling my car up?

Thanks in advance smile

Does your mum help you decide which underpants to wear?

The less fuel you drag around with you the more fuel you will save. However consider that in winter you could be stuck in harsh conditions for hours needing extra fuel for the heater e.t.c

In the winter I think you should have some extra just in case

I suggest you put £4.67 worth of petrol in (exactly, no more, no less). This should see you through til may 2013. At which point I would suggest you try £4.89 worth.

Run it on fumes and fold the rear seats down for best performance.

Seriously.

Depends if the fuel used in the trips to the petrol station outweighs the extra fuel used to carry around the full tank?

I hate going to the petrol station, fill it up well and then visit again only when I must.

I would of said £5 but I suppose £4.67 would be sufficient.

Make sure you fill up at the coldest part of the day as you get more fuel out of the pump!

I just drive mine till it's empty (usually very empty indeed) then fill it. Less time spent at petrol stations is always a bonus, putting over £130 in at a time is quite depressing but as I don't drive it much it lasts ages!

On a serious note, I always brim the tank as I cannot stand faffing around at petrol stations. Or more to the point, I can't stand other people faffing around at petrol stations.

How old are you?

Have you got socks arranged for tomorrow?

Is this the first time you've been allowed to own a car without a carer?

In summary, and aiming to be constructive, we really think you need to get out more.

That sounds like rubbish to me. Fuel pumps are small, low flow-rate, low pressure pumps; they should NOT need liquid cooling. I've regularly run all of my cars to near empty on almost every tank and have never had a fuel pump failure.

The "suck up crap from the bottom of the tank" thing doesn't make sense either - the fuel pick-up is always in the same place; if your tank has stuff that's heavier than fuel in it, it will suck it up regardless of how much fuel is there. If anything, the issue would be things that float on top of the fuel, but not many things that are likely to get into your petrol tank are lighter than petrol.

Cornflakes.
No, toast.
No, Cornflakes. Yup, cornflakes.
But then again, toast would be nice - I've just noticed there's a new Frank Coopers marmalade in the cupboard.
Cool, toast it is.
Actually, forgot about Weetabix - haven't had them for ages.

God dammit, I'll never make it to work at this rate! So many complicated life decisions!!!

I know, I'll start a thread of Pistonheads. Let someone else tell me.
