PeterBilt Truck (Trafford Area)
Discussion
So I had promised to take the missus to watch some new movie she wanted to see and a bit of shopping at the trafford centre (yawn).
Was parked at the lights on the main roundabout when I seen this huge shiny truck at the opposite junction. I recognized it instantly because I've always thought that would be awesome to own/drive in the UK. It was a Peterbilt Truck. Awesome!
I was just shocked I had seen it. It's now got me thinking how much would that cost? Was it one of the members here? Are there many in the UK?
PS - It was the square boxy metal shape rather than a newer one.

As far as I am aware as long as you get it right and the truck isn't too heavy and you can drive up to 7.5t on your driving licence you can drive one on a car licence, sounds mental but afaik its true. Of course you can't pull a big trailer with it, only the "caravan" like that one pictured above. I have seen one at an American car show converted to a long wheel base and essentially into a motorhome though you can't drive that on a car licence as far as I am aware
Big fuel bills though, 6-8mpg on diesel

You would need to have it re-plated to show a GVW of less than 7.5 tonnes, assuming the vehicle actually weighs less than that, which is pretty unlikely given the size of them.

Your towing limit on a car licence would be restricted to 8.250 tonnes, so if your truck's weight is close to the 7.5 t limit, you'd not be pulling a caravan, as there wouldn't be enough margin left in the overall gross train weight limit.

Yeah I think the drill is remove as much stuff as you can for the SVA test to make it weigh as little as possible, plate it for 7.5t then anything taken off can be added back on afterwards but this becomes part of the load the truck can carry iirc.Your towing limit on a car licence would be restricted to 8.250 tonnes, so if your truck's weight is close to the 7.5 t limit, you'd not be pulling a caravan, as there wouldn't be enough margin left in the overall gross train weight limit.
Dunno how much they weigh tbh, can't imagine them being lightweights.
